He should have been one, but Ozzie didn't pick him because he knew he couldn't pick all White Sox players. Instead he picked Buerhle who was not deserving. All the other Sox who made it deserved it. Ozzie playing favorites with his players will not help in the long run.
On this both sides are in agreement. Buerhle's been there, is currently 9-5 and hasn't had nearly as good a year as other pitchers who were not selected. On the other hand, Joe Crede has had a tremendous first half and really earned a spot on the team. If he didn't play on the Southside which most fans around the league seem to ignore, he'd have gotten enough votes where Ozzie would have had no choice. JMO.
Crede should be in and Buerhle should be out. Simple as that, Crede has had a great first half. I sure hope the sox pitching starts tp step up as it seeems like Detroit is fro real and the twins have been playing some good baseball. Should be interesting as they all start playing each other again.
What is this? The "what have you done for me lately?" club?
Crede is young and deserving.
Buehrle has 1 of the lowest ERA's in baseball with a bad game yesterday with the wind blowing pop ups out! No one would be questioning Mark if he had the luxury of the wind blowing in yesterday.
Veterans that have ALL-Star wins under their belt are more deserving than youngster's that are still getting there.
and....cub fans...we really don't care what you think about this matter.
From what I saw on TV and what ozzie said is Crede got the short end and ozzie tried every way possible to get Crede in but it wouldn't workout. Ozzie knows his players better than anyone else and I woudln't second guess him..even though I am a Cubs fan :]
soxnole, I am a sox fan and yes this is what have you done for me lately since it is this years all star game. As far as Buerhle and one of the lowest era in baseball I think he is 19 in the al and 37th overall in the big leagues. Yes I think Crede is more deserving this year than Buerhle. No I don't think Buerhle has pitched that well this year despite 9 wins, seems behind hitters more often, seems over the middle of the plate too often.
He had to take a pitcher over a positon guy. Contreras, Santana, and Halliday are all pitching on Sunday and would be on short rest. The last thing that Selig needs is for a game to end like the game in Milwaukee did a few years back. I still would have taken Joe over Glaus though.
Soxnole, first of all I am not a cubs fan, have always been a sox fan, 2nd I am not uniformed if you are referring to me. As far as reasons why, yes ozzie needs pitching, veteran, I am sorry I never knew this was a veteran all star game. Won lost record, he is 13th on that list, as far as last years game, usually the Winner of that is just the luck of the draw as far as where you go in to pitch. Once again I don't feel he has pitched well enough to be considered an all-star this year. Either way I will not lose sleep over it as I probably will not even watch the all star game. I also realize that the way things are picked or selected in sports is sometime political, heck just look at the ac games.
However...Take a look at the history of the All-Star game and you will find many examples over the years that ANY veteran will get the nod over an up and comer like Joe. That is just the way things are...and rightfully so.
You never know......it looks like Crede is a good one but maybe this will be his best shot at being an all-star. Maybe as Soxnole says he will still get named when others refuse the honor.
Hey soxnole I am not gripping about crede, I just stated my opninion. If I have a grip it is reading you on this website as if you are the last word on everything. Get over yourself.
It's apparent that you know the game and have the player's best interest at heart.
You bring good insight to this board and I respect your opinion.
That you have a gripe with me doesn't make you the "Lone Ranger".
I may not be the last word but I do my homework and love the game.
Crede or Buehrle...tough choice which most manager's including Ozzie will go with the vet ...much like most HS or D1 coaches would go with the senior over the sophomore etc.
LOL means laugh out loud, lots of laughs, etc. I was giving you a soft "shot" or target depending on how you took it. I meant it to be funny, not condecending.
I start this off by saying that I am a Sox fan and did vote for AJ. Im curious what happened to Ozzie's promise to make Crede an all-star if someone dropped out.
(In a recent article that I read about Crede's non-attendence) According to White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen, who also is managing the American League team, that slight still could change.
"It will be one week, and if someone gets hurt, I don't care pitcher, catcher, outfielder, Crede is going," said Guillen in direct tones following Sunday's loss. "That's the way it's going to be. If anything happens to those 32 guys on the field where they can't make it, Crede is going, and I don't care who gets mad."
That's what Ozzie said but after reading espn.com today I saw that Mags is going. I just thought it was interesting that Guillen did nto fufill his promise. Maybe Im reading into it wrong. Any thoughts?
Weaver...No big thing. Next year for Crede unless someone else backs out in the next few days.
Ozzie was right about Mags...He could make or break him if he wanted. Ozzie will patch things up with Mags. All-Star tag likely means about $250,000 to a guy like Mags.
