I just got a message that Andrew McCutchen and friends are holding a clinic for young ballplayers in Dixie Youth Ball at his home town fields. It's $35 to go, and all the proceeds go to Dixie Youth in Ft Meade. Just proud of him, I guess, and wanted to put that out. He has donated money and time for the youth and HS fields in Ft. Meade. They are awful proud of him, and have reason to be.

When Andrew was drafted I bought 2 Pirates hats and 2 balls and had him sign them the very next day. (I taught him freshman year) We've thrown alot of balls back into the bucket over time, but those 2 MLB balls are still on the bookcase. He has sure made people around here proud, but just as much for coming back and giving to his community as the baseball.

We used to go watch his HS games when our children were much younger. (17,19 now) I know that the Harpers, Trouts, and Hamiltons etc, put on some serious shows for their high schools, but I didn't see them. I was personally at a game at Auburndale, along with a pile of scouts, when he put a show on I will never forget. He just looked different than everyone else out there, in the way he approached the game. He put one out that went over the lights and into the ag field a long ways off. He was on the cover of SI not that long ago and they mentioned that hit. It made me feel good to know I actually saw it, and that the scouts were impressed as well. My husband was more impressed when he caught a fly ball with a man on third fairly deep and threw out the runner on third going home. Our little area is proud of him, and absolutely NO ONE was surprised with his success.
He was athletically gifted, but he worked his tail off.
