Does anyone here have experience with a player transferring mid year from one D-1 school to another? I'm curious about the NCAA rules and what the issues are. Situation is that the player left school #1 on good terms with the baseball staff there after the first semester and wants to play this year for another D-1 closer to home. Unfortunately, the player left school #1 before getting everything set up and there seems to be a problem with eligibility even though school #1 has released him.
D'oh!

I am aware of a player who recently did this and can play. Evidently it had something to do with a coaching change before he got on campus in the fall. Others have stated that according to your NLI you must spend one year in residence before being eligable.
So I am not sure if this player received an exception but I believe you must complete your 1 year agreement. If you transfer without the release you would not be eligable for 1 year and may have to sit next season also because the (year) is considered fall and spring and in that specific order.
