It seems that I have read on here that some California Colleges offer a sort of co-enrollment in a 4-year and Juco college, allowing the baseball player to play at a Juco while enrolled at a 4-year school.

I thought it was a tie between Cal Poly and Cuesta that was posted here. I was curious how this works, and if schools like UCSB/SB City College and UC Irvine/? offer this sort of opportunity.

Cuesta and Cal Poly do so...there are players enrolled at Cal Poly that do play on the Cuesta team.

The academic load however can be pretty heavy. I am not sure of the specifics but I believe that between the two schools that those dual players were in the 21 unit range to remain enrolled at both...though that likley includes some baseball/PE units.

Cool
I wouldn't call "co-enrollment" because this situation is really about meeting the JC eligability requirments and has nothing to do with attending Cal Poly.

A cal poly student could play at LA Harbor if he could work out a full time schedule at LA Harbor in addition to his Cal Poly classes.

The trouble comes when "transfering" from the JC to some school other then Cal Poly.

I would be surpised if any player on the Cuesta team attending Cal Poly had any type of future roster commitment from Cal Poly....If Cal Poly really liked the player, they would have red shirted him for a variety of reasons.

Correct....there is no direct baseball advantage/roster comittment to doing so. While many would like to think that SBCC is a "feeder" to UCSB, and some players do make that jump...it is not necessarily so. While it may be geographically easier to look at a player, each player would be considered on a case by case or need basis.

And while the UC's used to offer guarantted admission by GPA (SBCC to UCSB) from the state JC's that policy was changed/altered mid stream with the state budget cuts and the higher demand for state school, and the lowering of enrollments.

Cool
