Wow! great for him!

I bet many people didn't imagine that he'd be doing this well as a sophomore in high school.

Only rated a 6 on PG at the time! http://www.perfectgame.org/pla...ofile.aspx?ID=108370

Even when he was rated as a "6" I don't see what made him rated as that. As only a sophomore he ran a 6.9 and thew 75 across the infield. The report even stated that he can hit as well. I think they made a mistake with the rating?
kt333,

We have made a few big mistakes. Might be hard to understand, but I love it when players we graded too low prove us wrong.

I agree that Darin should have been graded higher. Back then we had a tendency to grade lower than we do now. As time went on we got things a bit more correct regarding his ability.

We also graded Prince Fielder a 6.5 the first time we saw him. That grade later became a more accurate 10. There is actually a player in the major leagues that our guys found we had given a 5 to when he was young.

Obviously these type kids don't take what others think very seriously. Gotta love those types.

Congrats to Darin for a well deserved honor. I got to see him play twice this spring. He leaves it on the filed.

Awhile back I was looking through PG's wonderful database of players and ran across Brian Jeroloman's profile with his 6 rating. Brian went on to star at U. of Florida and is doing well in AA. He must have been a late bloomer. PGStaff I am not calling you guys out. I htink it's probably better to miss a player on the low side. Y'all wrote the book on scouting high school kids.....I'm just saying. Smile

Way to go Darin, awesome.

Also would like to recognize Darin's teammate at Dunedin, and fellow all-star this year. Eric Thames.
Eric's been rehabing for the last year after hip surgery, and glad to see that he's been playing well enough at the start of the minor league season to earn an all-star spot.
I read were he is on the IR, Lets hope he gets back to full health.

Thanks again for the kind words - just got back from a trip and saw the post.

I will make sure to pass along your kind words to Darin. He sincerely appreciates the support and good wishes.

By the way - Has anyone seen Andrew McCutchen? We are so very proud of him.

He was the best young prospect I have ever seen - and if I recall correctly I have posted about Andrew here on this site for quite some time. (Darin was a teammate of Andrew's when they played in Puerto Rico many years ago.)

Now - Andrew is getting off to a wonderful start with the Pirates!!! - Make sure you check this kid out! He is really really good!
