Just watched the last few laps of the Daytona 500 with a surprise ending that has some people smiling - I'd guess especially the NASCAR marketing folks. A new star is born - the winner: Trevor Bayne, age 20!

Trevor is a rookie, a part-time driver, and darn cute. It was sure fun to see the smile on his face as he climbed out the driver's window of the winning car and was hoisted up by his team. Also fun to hear his teammates instructing him right after the race that he was supposed to do some spinning and rubber burning before heading over to victory lane.

I know it's not baseball, but it's always fun to see a young athlete succeeding and enjoying it so much.

There's only a couple NASCAR races that I watch each year, and the Daytona 500 is one of them. I'm not a big race fan, as it seems there are too many cautions throughout the race and it gets a little boring. But I have to admit that the last couple of laps are pretty exciting! I was pulling for Dale Jr. to take the checkered flag; I believe this was the Ten Year Anniversary of his dad's death?

Anyway, I was very happy the young 20 year old Trevor Bayne took it to the house, and I agree with 13LHPdad, it was funny hearing him ask for directions to Victory Lane. Yep MN-Mom...A Star was born today!
My first love was racing until my son started playing baseball, then I started discovering all the simularities - Both have no clocks running the game play, both are mentally taxing, both are very technical, both are somewhat boring to outsiders until they discover all the strategy involved, both are sports that with more practice the better you get, both don't have set body types to play at a high level. Both sports are great and I'm lucky to be a part of both! Trevor is a great kid with a huge future and reminds me of alot of great baseball kids as well!
