Do junior colleges ever play four year schools? I don't recall seeing that.

Some NAIA schools seem to give lots of scholarships; some junior colleges give a ton of them (see www.njcaa.org)

What's the story with JV baseball in college? I notice that some NAIA schools have enormous teams. Was told that many kids play JV. Do major D-1 universities ever have JV teams?

mic - I know of several JUCOs that play JV teams of NAIA schools. I have heard many horror stories of JV teams. I'm sure some are used appropriately. We were told by a couple of NAIA that recruited my son that the JV was used "for kids that don't play". It can have juniors and seniors on it as well as freshmen. The JV can be used as a way to bring in extra kids just for the school. Many DIIIs have JV. NAIA and JUCOs are funded just like NCAA schools - some schools fund all of their scholarships and some fund very few. That was always one of our early conversation questions, so that you get an idea where things stand financially and can compare the value of the scholly they are offering to your son.

Thanks for those answers. How about the above question? I've looked at many D-1 baseball websites and never noticed anything to indicate they have JV teams,

If not, do majors ever arrange "JV" level games where both sides agree to use only fresh/soph players, or something to that effect?

micdsguy ...

You will see that occasionally ... I know of two instances, one in NorCal and one in SoCal. The concern for the 4 year schools, especially D-1's, is that it counts against their maximum number of games per season, BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY, it can ruin their RPI. (A low RPI ... the rating used by NCAA come post-season time and regional assignments ... can keep a team out of regional play even if they finish well in their conference. As an example, my son's school finished 3rd in the Big West last year but was not awarded a post-season opportunity. The 4th place team was ... even tho they finished below .500 in conference play ... because their RPI was substantially higher.)
