Was checking out the national polls today and find that there are lots of disparities between Collegiate Baseball Newspaper poll, BA Top 25, USA/ESPN Coaches Top 25 and National Collegiate Baseball Writers of America (NCBWA). For you college guys out there, any reason for this, or is it just the subjective nature of rankings?

Yeah, but fun to talk about.

Some of the polls are a bit of a joke, while others do quite a bit of homework, and others are compilation polls like the NCBWA.

One thing most of the polls seem to have in common, is a love of themselves. They tend to be very reluctant to move teams out of their polls which makes it extremely difficult for new teams to move in. There are several good teams out there right now, **** Roberts, Coastal, UTSA, that have done better than some currently ranked teams. It would seem there is quite a bias towards the "perrenial powerhouse". Where a team like UVA that has not impressed anyone, still remains in all the polls.

Some polls have a very unhealthy reliance on recruiting classes and even earlier rankings on particular players. BA has this problem for sure.

Some powerhouses have reputations that seem to warrant their poll levitation this early in the season. (Texas and Florida State seemingly forever and more recently Rice and North Carolina)

Some outstanding 10 year runs have been barely recognized (Coastal Carolina)while some big name coaching changes(OConnor)out of the ACC (Virginia)gain credibilty and acceptance in 4-5 years.

Polls...Collegiate Baseball and the Coaches ESPN poll get my vote for credibility. The BA and Rivals polls are too biased or at least run the risk of that natural bias created out of affiliations within the same organization.I'd put the Writer's poll 3rd.

In the end I bet virtually all of the aforementioned schools wind up in the final top 10 of these polls.
soxnole,
What are the affiliations you speak of with Rivals and BA? (just asking out of ignorance)

Rice seems to be consistently inconsistent, while in the CB poll, Kentucky is ranked second when barely on the radar or a newcomer to other polls.

I'll bet a bag of dounuts that Virginia doesn't see anybodies top ten when the polls close...
