Our son who will be a sophmore this fall was told this summer by the baseball coach that he will be on the JV baseball team in the spring, however, I was told by a parent that the coach said there will be try-outs for the JV and varsity teams.

The question is should we communicate with the coach via email or phone about what he would like to see from our son in terms of improvement once baseball season/try-outs are under way? We found a great training facility for our son. He has started working out at the faciliy which will help him improve his hitting, speed, agility strength and overall baseball skills. Should the information about the training facility also be communicated to the coach or should our son let his actions and hopefully improvement on the field in the spring speak for him?

We don't want to appear as if we are trying to kiss-up to the coach. We just want him to know that our son will work hard to get better so that he will make a significant contribution to the team. Any thoughts are greatly appreciated. Thanks ! Smile

coach2709 and Coach May thank you for your input. You both confirmed what I thought. We will let our son's actions on the field speak for him.

You know, I see many parents always in the coach's face, always talking to the coach and from what I understand, the discussion is always about how good their son is (according to inside information). We don't really talk to the coach except for polite small talk. WeI just thought that maybe we were doing something wrong by not saying much to the coach. Thanks again !

Good choice mom.

You live in SoCal, It's not unusual for a HS Player in Cali to not get a chance on Varsity until there Junior year.
No matter how good they are.
It's just the way it is.

I coached high school for a long time. I have been out 10 years. I never had parents calling me or e mailing me asking me this and that about their sons. for the most part they came to the games and went home. there was the occassional conversation but that was about it.
