Do Pre Season Rankings Really Matter

Relax over there in near the retirement community. You guys are having a good season. Just worry about that.

Your right on with the rankings being all hype. There is a ton of great baseball being played in the state of Illinois. To get a true ranking you would have to get a group of coaches and media throughout the state to rank teams. There is no way any one person or media outlet can see enough games to give a true ranking. Plus in a one and done tourney the best team in the state does not always finish on top.

However, if they are the best team in the state, shouldn't they, by definition be able to beat all of the teams they face. If not how could they be considered the best team?

Rankings, shankings, blankings, who cares? At the end of the season only 1 team in each class is left standing. THAT is what matters. I just have to laugh at anyone concerned with rankings.
Yes, recognition is nice but you're still charged for coffee at McDonald's.
At the end of the day, you still have to play the game regardless of rank.

Haven't gone anywhere JohnnyWalker. Never put faith in that pre-season rankings stuff to begin with. The kids don't buy it either. Only between the lines at the end of the year counts. How you play the game...nothing else matters.

Great example. How do those pre-season rankings compare to the current rankings? Pre-season rankings are just that, pre-season rankings.
