LOL, too funny about your rotating football field signage! Congrats to WashU for the 2009 D3 basketball national championship....that one must have slipped through the cracks! It is a beautiful campus, as I was there on business last month and noticed the national championship sign. I have to believe they do some recruiting for baseball. The facilities looked pretty darn nice.

They do some recruiting in football and in men's and women's basketball, a sport in which the men repeated as national champions two years in a row. If you are talented and smart, the baseball can help you get in the school, but they don't really recruit for it. Contact the coach; if he's interested enough, he can put in a good word for the admissions process.

And yes, there admissions standards are as high as any Ivy League school. Their conference, the University Athletic Association, has Chicago, Brandeis, NYU, Carnegie Mellon, Emery, and Rochester as members. Most of those schools don't play baseball.
my daughter was recruited there for softball which is one of the top D3 programs in the country. The university itself is perhaps the best academic but generally speaking relatively unknown college in the nation... friend of my DD couldnt get in with a 2380 sat!... he was very light on extra curriculars and an underachiever in the classroom however.
I played softball for Wash U after finding out about the academics. I wanted a 4 year engineering school with a softball team I could walk onto. I contacted the softball coach directly and sent her my stats. I was accepted to the school BEFORE I really was recruited. It is true that a D3 school cannot offer athletic scholarships, BUT Wash U does a REALLY good job of helping everyone get academic scholarships or financial aid. My parents ended up paying less for my school than my sister who went to an in-state school.
My suggestion is, if you are interested in Wash U, apply early decision and let the coach know. I don't know of many players they don't allow on the team. Its a great school and I absolutely loved every minute of it.
