As we head into the New Year I just wanted to make note of this--many kids(and parents) have dreams of playing at their "dream" school---it doesnt always happen that way for a number of reasons--- academics, your position being filled, coaches not liking your talent for their program etc

Make sure you have a backup program in sight---it great to shoot for the moon but there is no shame in grabbing a star if you miss the moon

So true TR,
So many things can go wrong. Some that are or were in our control and some that aren't.

I'll add a couple more to your list, financial considerations or changes and the always dreaded INJURY.
For my boy three things happened.
His choice of schools was limited because hes barely an average student. He could have controlled that.

Then I lost my job so the finacial situation changed dramatically. No control over that.

Then he he tore his UCL. Maybe I/he had some control over that but we took as much care of his arm as we knew how.

So its going to be a local JUCO for at least a year to recover from his injury. If all goes well he'll still have his shot. Just have to wait a little longer is all.

That being said he is forever the optimist and his dream lives on Smile

Words for the song, "Dream Big" by Ryan Shupe

And when you cry be sure to dry your eyes
Cause Better days are sure to come
When you smile be sure to smile wide
and don’t let them know they have won.
And when you walk, walk with pride
don’t show the hurt inside cause the pain will soon be gone.

And when you dream, dream big
As big as the ocean blue
Cause when you dream it might come true
And when you dream, dream big.

And when you laugh be sure to laugh out loud
cause it will carry all your cares away
And when you see, see the beauty all around and in yourself
and it will let you feel ok.
And when you pray, pray for strength to help you carry on
when the troubles come your way

And when you dream, dream big
As big as the ocean blue
Cause when you dream it might come true
And when you dream, dream big.
Never give in.

There are alot of good people out there - and some very bad ones too.

My eldest son was a very good high school player. He was recruited by alot of schools.

He chose a school far away from home - arrived there - and was immediately red-shirted - much to our surprise. The guy who recruited him left shortly thereafter.

He took his red-shirt - improved his body - and went to a good summer collegiate league. Hadnt played for almost a year - hit .300 and had a great summer season.

Back to school - Head Coach wouldnt even let him take batting practice. LOL - Sat the bench - with the guys competing against him hitting .120 and dropping every ball hit to them. Had a couple parents call the coach - and tell the coach he was flunking out. LOL

Reality - He was an A student.

Had parents call the coach and say he was a partier.
Reality - nope - but about 6 guys on his team were arrested for public drunkedness. 2 had to go to rehab.

Then - a letter - received on July 28th - took all his money away.

Too late to transfer. Red shirt Frosh year down the toilet bowl.

And off the radar screen he went in collegiate baseball.
Finito.

From the outside - Looked like just another kid that couldnt make it. LOL

But he got the hell out of that cesspool - and moved on.
And hit - and ran - and hit some more - and got straight A's too.

Why - because he loves the game - and he wont tolerate liars.

In the end - the truth shines through. And the lying *****s just disappear.

If you believe in yourself - and you are willing to ignore the vermin in our society - and if you work hard - you will win.

You may not reach all of your goals - but you will win and attain most of them - and you will also get the satisfaction of watching the *****s disappear.

Some slowly - and others quickly. LOL

And while we are at it, just food for thought.

The only person who can fulfill the dream is the PLAYER.

As a parent, you can provide all that you think is necessary for your player to improve, showcases, travel ball, tournaments, lessons, best HS, best college. But there comes a time when your player has to decide for HIMSELF which direction to take. Comes a time when you CAN'T remind him to get out and go to the batting cage, throw, run, get better grades, go to class, workout, be on time for practice, etc.

In other words, you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink.

Make sure your players dream is his and not YOURS. If you understand that, YOU will be much happier.

The only person who can fulfill the dream is the PLAYER.

TPM, That's right.
I have only a couple of places now that I, The EH has anything to do with baseball. And one is as a Fan.
The other is as a poster on the HSBBW.
I had to WEEN myself from giving any advice to my son.
It's hard.
That's why I post here. A form of Group Therapy.
Thank's everybody you have eased my pain.LOL
