I created a video of my son using Windows Movie Maker and burned it on a dvd. The dvd plays fine in the computer, but when I put it in a regular dvd player an error message appears saying the disc can't be read.

Does anyone know what the problem is or how to make a dvd that will work on all players?

Don't want to send it to a coach unless I'm sure he can view it.

Depending on the software you used, you might need to change a setting. Some programs, like Nero, default to a multisession DVD. That means you can continue to update on un-used portions of that DVD until its filled. Good for playback in computers, bad for playback in most DVD players.

So, if you want to play this in a DVD player you need to turn off that option.(multisession)

The option is labeled something different in all programs. But, that is most likely your issue.
Technology has changed rapidly in this area over the past few years. I had some of the same problems when I first started burning DVD's and trying to play them back on a "standard" DVD player. (I found out there is no such thing) I solved my problem by replacing my outdated DVD players. Most DVD/CD players today play the majority of the DVD formats plus the CD formats with pictures and VCDs. I feel sure the coach can play back the DVD the way it is either on his dvd or their computer. Sounds like a good "excuse" to call him and ask if they had any problems ... Wink

Maybe this was added after the initial post.

My guess, and it's a relatively uneducated one, is that the DVD player is a few generations old. There may also be a DVD+ or DVD- incompatibility issue. But, I struggle with these DVD type things.

On a related note, I have some questions about files from my son's Sony HD camera with a hard drive. If anyone has a lot of experience with theirs, a PM would be appreciated. Thanks.
