I know it's early in the season for us Fl guys/gals, and too early for those up north, but what re****s are you guys seeing with the BBCOR's?

We are 5 games in, 7 counting pre-season. Of our 7 games our team has 6 HR's. We have 3 legit HR hitters and are by far, in no way, a power hitting team. 2 of the 3 power guys have HR's the third has none. One contact hitter has 2. Here is our breakdown

Voodoo - 2 hr's
5150 - 4 hr's

We played two in a tourn yesterday. We have no "power" type hitters this year. Our first game was a typical american league station to station approach to the game and we lost 2-1 with no extra base hits by either team. Our pitcher struck out 1 and their pitcher struck out 2 (so both teams were putting the ball in play). We are both decent hitting teams.

Game two we played much more of a small ball type game with 7 bunts and combos of bunts/steals....we won 5-2.....got me to thinking we may have to do much more of this type of play this year.

I guess how much the bats will effect the game depends on the type hitters you have.

I think if you know how to hit, these bats are just fine.

Whenever I see one of these BBCOR threads get going, I cringe. Just as you saw in your experience, its gonna be what its gonna be. There will be days when lots of balls fly out of the park, and days where they don’t.

But more importantly, what does anybody think is gonna happen if the bats aren’t “fine”? Obviously the NCAA believes they’re fine, and NFHS has jumped on the bandwagon, as have most other organizations that play ball on the big field. So who’s left that might agree to loosen the standard, and what bat manufacturer would think it a wise move to start manufacturing bats that would meet those looser standards?

I’ll say again what I’ve said before. The sooner people “get over” this bat brouhaha and quit pining for days-gone-by, the better. For the most part, what happened last year in college and out here in Ca. HS ball, about a third of the way through the season, it was no longer much of a topic on the field, in the dugouts, or in the clubhouses. Those guys understood there was no sense beating a dead horse. It was only the pundits and parents keeping the angst flowing with their constant comparisons and implying that somehow the game was worse for the change.

I went through the move from nothing to BESR, and now I’m watching exactly the same kinds of things happening and being said about the move from BESR to BBCOR.
