Greetings from a Cane fan.

From lurking on several JUCO World Series articles, I came across an article on Enrique Garcia and it stated that he was a UofMiami signee.
How good is this young man and what are his chances he goes pro or move on to the UM?
Any responses will be greatly appreciated.

Alot will determine what he did and who saw him while he was in West Virginia. That is the scout who would recommend him.

The word I have heard about Enrique, he is still getting acclimated to breaking the 90 barrier. Meaning he has bouts of control problems.

Definately a lot of talent. I believe he will get drafted, the question is what round and will that make him happy enough to go.

John,
I apologize if I have created a venue where we are going to critique Enrique to death. Let's face it, when you are throwing in the 90's you certainly are going to create attention. Like you, I also think the Grand Junction performance will help.

To explain a bit of what I was referring to, and you touched on it with your comments. His walks to innings pitched are high. A lot of kids lose their downward angle when they begin to increase in velocity. The question of control is dealing with a flat fast ball, which at a certain level becomes very hittable or tails out of the strike zone.

With respect to Enrique, lets face it, he will get drafted again, and if it is not high enough, his fall back is Miami. Not bad!

Looking at the ratio in nine innings k's 10.6 a game and bb's 2.4. Matter of opinion of course but 2.4 in nine innings isn't that high. Were talking major leagues now but Clemens career bb's per nine innings is over 3.

The downward angle statement I disagree with.He is 6'1 or 6'2 he will always be throwing downward. If your mechanics are correct and you have the proper release point how hard you throw or trying to throw makes no difference on pitching downward.
Kss,
You are absolutely correct, at the same time I have found pitchers breaking the 90 barrier sometimes have trouble finding the proper release point. They will leave pitches up in the strike zone or a bit wild. True, a downward angle, but less and appearing flat to the hitter.

So there is no misunderstanding, I am talking about effect, and not the cause.

The issue with the walks, I was using the numbers John reference, 21 Walks in 78 innings. Obviously there must be a difference in the numbers.

John,
Sorry for the hiccup. I should have been more clear when I type my comment back to KSS.

When I first saw the numbers I peformed the calculation incorrectly. When I re-read my thread, I agree with you it comes across wrong. I should have put a smiley face after the "Obviously there must be a difference in the numbers."

I repeat, I said this earlier, I truly believe Enrique is in a win/win situation and the Grand Junction performance is the icing.
