Good morning and Happy Labor Day weekend! Our son is a 2021 MIF who will be attending both Headfirst and Showball this fall in FL, as well as doing a couple individual college camps. He is working on reaching out in advance to the colleges of interest whose coaches will be there. As part of that process, he will be including a video, in addition to a narrative intro.

I have researched this site and there are many solid recommendations for how to structure the video (e.g. short, no music, focused on skills (hitting/fielding), include contact info, etc.) So, we think we have some good grasp on the parameters and what to include, and our son will be working on putting it together this weekend.

I wanted to reach out to this community to see if we can get some actual examples of videos that have been effective in demonstrating skills and generating interest when they were shared with the coaches. Please feel free to DM the link if you don't want to post it on the site.

Also, should we include any swing footage from actual games to demonstrate in-game action? Any other recommendations that we should consider would also be great.

Thank you so much.

Don't forget to list measurables, assuming they are good.  Regarding game footage, yes, particularly if it is against decent competition, mix some of that in but edit out down time - just good swings where the ball was struck well and that can extend to running out the play.  Good in-game defensive plays are good as well.

For a position player, it shouldn't be hard to mix practice reps and swings along with game footage and still keep the video short with proper editing.  If you have good game footage, that's great.

I'll add a couple of things that I picked up along the way (probably from this site):

- Caption the game highlights so that coaches know its against quality competition "Bases loaded triple vs. TN Outlaws at Lakepoint"

- Put your best attributes in the subject line, and don't be shy: "6'3, 190, 6.6 2020 OF"

- I wouldn't worry too much about length...my son's video was a bit over 2 minutes and many viewers watched the whole way (sure, a bunch stopped at :30 too).

Good luck.
