I read a lot about how much importance teams place on their league play. I am assuming this has to deal with some sort of championship play after the season. I also think that this may be associated with Little League, in which we don't have any leagues associated with Little League in our area so I am completely ignorant on this aspect. We use our league play as more as practice games, meaning we still want to win of course, but we use it to test out the lesser pitchers or we use the kids in their secondary positions to ensure they get time in that spot. We switch batting orders all around, we test different pick-offs and other things like that. Our emphasis is placed more on tournaments vs. league, but we do have a championship at the end of the season for our league and during that time we kick it into high gear. So I guess what my question is ... Why is their so much importance place on league play in some of your neck of the woods?

At our Little League, in the spring, teams are playing to see who makes the top team tournament. We also play fall ball which in an instructional shortened season where we move kids around and work on fundamentals. So we do a little of both. To answer the question, league play for us is to get to the top team tournamnet. But we have the advantage of playing year round. Hope it helps
