The inaugural season of the Dallas – Fort Worth Fall Metro Scout League, hosted by The Dallas Mustangs, DBAT (Dallas Baseball Academy of Texas), and the McKinney Marshals will commence on September 9th and run through October 7th at local DFW colleges.

We will be selecting 108 of the best 17 and 18 year baseball players in the Metroplex to play in a Sunday league. There will be 6 teams in the league that will play each other in a round robin, wood bat contests that will be witnessed by college coaches and pro scouts from in and around the region.

Teams will be selected by a drawing, meaning kids will have teammates from other teams and organizations from around DFW. The focus will be on the kids as individuals, not if their team wins or loses. Teams in the league will be the Orioles, Pirates, Royals, Reds, A’s and Giants.

An open tryout will be held on Saturday, August 18 at 4pm for catchers and pitchers and 6pm for position players. The tryout will be at Gabe Nesbitt Field at 6151 Alma Road in McKinney. The rain out information line is 214 521 9162.

The cost to play in the league is $650 per player. Please make all checks payable to DBAT.

Could this fall concept be the new East Cobb of Texas Baseball. This is a great opportunity for North Texas Baseball. On a second note this is great to see the Mustangs, Marshals & DBAT forge a partnership for the betterment of the students. I hope this evolves to the assistance with college recruiting, clearing house, pro advisers, etc.

Congrats to Sam, Shayne and Cade.
SWAC- I believe the dream is to bring all of us together one day and form a super power that can rival that of East Cobb. This is a great first step.

DEEMAX- The coaches will be notified within the next 3 weeks. We are gathering who is playing and sending out the rosters to all area and region coaches. If you take our three organizations and sprinkle in some others (players) from the other organizations and the open tryout, I am very POSITIVE that the kids will get some great exposure...

I would strongly suggest you call them directly with your questions. It is their idea, so anyone else commenting here would only be speculating.

I am witness to the fact that this cooperative partnership already exists. My son played in Mustangs for Shayne as 15 & 16 yr old. Son left Mustangs and played on John Fuqua's Dallas Knights teams as 17 & 18 YO. When son was recruited, college coaches called Sam for player references. All of these organizations and men played a cooperative part in helping my son get recruited by Dartmouth.
FOLKS,
Give us a call, shoot me, sam , or cade a PM. This is a new concept, i'm sure there will be minor glitches. I have phoned SRC in regards to his tryout post. We will get it corrected...

We feel that the talent base between the three groups and from other orgs and other kids, will generate alot of buzz from scouts and coaches...

Where else are they (scouts/coaches) going to see the HS kids this fall if you have most of the top guys this fall playing in your league...?

Once again, shoot us a pm if you have a question...
BB-

We are assuming that the talent from the 3 orgs and talent from the other orgs sprinkled in will bring them out (coaches). We are doing a mass mailing and emailing of the rosters and schedule to all the coaches we know...

This is a new concept. We are trying something different. The old fall ball system was not working. Give it a chance and lets see how it works...

Coaches will come because the right guys are playing...

Your roster spots will fill up lightning fast if any names of schools or scouts is confirmed. Parents would fork over 1300 if names/schools/scouts could be guaranteed.

I have run, played, and coached scout teams in the past. If exposure can be guaranteed then the sky will be the limit for this league.

If the best players are present (including the poor) scout presence could be guaranteed. If really good, but poor players do not get an invite, many scouts will get turned off. Professional scouts are not huge fans of "pay showcases" In my experience.

Good Luck with your league, and PM me if anything in my post was not clear.
Each game is, in effect, a camp for coaches. Those outside the dugout will not be able to have direct contact with the '09 kids. Due to the nature of the recruiting process this year (new rules, shorter summer caused by rain), this is another important fall for '08 kids. I think this league is an excellent idea -- I hope it works.
Demeex,

I am more the type that likes to under promise and over deliver. I will give you an example. Last year DBAT did a showcase at Brookhaven College where we invited college coaches. I got these same questions about what schools are coming. I had 15 or 20 coaches tell me that they were coming out to watch. I never leaked this out because if only 14 of them showed up, someone would throw it back at me. I think if you would look back on this message board and find that topic, you will see everyone was pleased at the turn out. If you are not comfortable on the history of how Sam, Shayne, and I run things then I would say this is too risky for you. All we can promise is that we will have a great fall league, some of the best athletes in Dallas will play in the league, and we will have some scouts come out to watch. This is the same thing I promise my kids that play for DBAT teams. Hope this answers everyone’s questions.

I dont know how you run things, but based on your reputations I assume you three take care of business. My comfort level(which is non-existent since I dont know you) with you has nothing to do with my ideas on how a scout team should/could/will be run.

For 650 per player it is a very fair question to ask if any scouts or college coaches have committed. Even if your able to get the name of a school or a professional organization that will attend. This would lend great credibility and you could avoid giving out names of individual coaches/scouts who may or may not show up based on a change in their schedule. Their assitant/associate scouts could fill in for them and the Fall League would still be true to its word on organizations represented. Its just a thought.

This league is to risky for my son....but he is only 7 and I feel he would have a hard time playing up. Wink
Just throwing this out there... if a kid is unsure whether or not a school is available, maybe call the school's coach, let them know you're going to be in attendance, and right there that increases the chances of them being there... and you have first hand knowledge. A little initiative can always go a long way. This is what I'll be doing.

Without a question the Chicago White Sox will have a scout come out one maybe two weekends. That I can promise.

Cade Griffis

That is good news for potential players. Any chance the team could be renamed "The Chicago White Sox Scout Team." An MLB team could definetly help the leagues appeal. It is always good when somebody gets involved that doesnt have a vested interest in profits.
