Tomorrow begins another great tradition in amateur baseball, the Connie Mack World Series in Farmington, NM. The CMWS brackets have been posted, with the usual suspects appearing (DBAT, Midland, East Cobb), along with some some first timers. It's a tremendous experience for anyone/everyone involved.

I'm wondering if anyone here had a son playing in this wonderful event? Send me a PM if your coming through ABQ on your way to Farmington. I'd love to keep tabs on your player. If you're hungry and need a meal or beverage, or if you just want some tips on what to do on your off days, I'm more than happy to oblige. Welcome to New Mexico. Bienvenidos and good luck!

Here's a little flavor of what the tournament is like from someone there now...

The Connie Mack World Series in Farmington is the tournament that each player in the club should be playing for when he is 17-18. Yesterday, the team arrived on a bus with a police escort, were treated to entertainment and dinner and then went to their host families where they were treated like kings. This morning, the boys rode a huge float prepared just for us by our local sponsor in a 60 float parade held every year to honor the 10 teams. The whole town turns out for the parade, games and festivities. The stadium is filled with thousands of people, including many college and MLB scouts. Our host familes are all wearing our Tiger shirts with pride and cheering for our team at the game. There is nothing like this in baseball except maybe the College World Series.

Way to go City of Farmington
I was talking with a friend who is the head coach of the Danville Hoots, the northern California team that made it. He told me it was the greatest baseball experience they've ever had, and he said that after they lost their 1st two games and were eliminated. My team competes against the Hoots and he told me that every team in our league needs to strive to get to Farmington eventually, best experience around.
