For everyone out there, who is your favorite player of all-time and why? It can be a high-schooler, college player, or anyone you want. I know mostly everyone here has been around thousands of players and eager to see which are your personal favorites.

Mine is Pete Rose. Although I've never seen him play, the stories my dad tells me about him makes me love the guy. Hustle never has a bad day and Rose lived his life that way.

Ryne Sandberg of the Cubs was my favorite of all time. This was back in the mid 80's when real TV channels were starting to make it to my part of WV. We had WGN and TBS and they were showing the Cubs and Braves. The Braves were absolutely horrible so that is one reason I chose the Cubs. The other is because the atmosphere at Wrigley and Harry Carey's broadcasts just made watching Cubs games much more interesting.

Sandberg always seemed to make the great play when they needed it or get the big hit when they needed it. But most importantly he was a classy person who did things right.

Met him once in an airport and he was very kind and gracious.

Did he happen to mention whether or not he was in the Hall of Fame? Wink

All time favorite MLB player --- Stan Musial. Don't expect an explanation is required.

Special place in my heart for Wally Moon, though, his flat out, slam against the wall, OF play is my earliest memory of loving watching the game.

But no memories of Musial and Moon in Sportsman's Park and all the other great times at an MLB game can ever compare to any time (T-ball to Today) watching my son play.
When I was younger, I used to love to watch Willie Stargell. He was so imposing walking up to the plate, a big man that looked like he was swinging a telephone pole. The whole time he always seemed to have this big grin on his face, like he was having the time of his life.

As I grew older and Stargell retired, Tony Gwynn and Cal Ripken Jr. were my favorites. Came to the ballpark to play everyday and did it well. These guys made baseball a fun sport to watch and follow.
