This is a reminder for those looking at colleges to make sure it's a fit in all areas. I have been hearing through son's friends of players that will not be eligible for the start of the college season due to grade issues.

A few of the kids I know and it doesn't surprise me they are struggling academically in college. They are at colleges where their stats were below the average gpa/sat. Or they chose really difficult majors and struggled their 1st semester or quarter.

Apparently even with study hall, grade checks, and tutors it may not be enough for some to stay eligible. It may be that they bombed finals thus failing grades. Typically grades may drop by 1 letter grade the 1st year in college until the student settles in.

So my point is to match your son's academic abilities with the level of academics of the colleges your'e interested in. Using the common data set which can be found on most colleges websites is a good way to determine if your son would be successful at that particular college.

CaBB, you should grab a podium and preach this one to the great masses with a bullhorn!

Younggun transferred to a JUCO over the break and got in by the skin of his teeth! And I AIN'T kidding when I say SKIN!

I remember seeing that data on college websites about the level of academics, etc. and just cruised right on by! What a huge mistake on my part!
