I almost had a situation today where a ball was hit straight up and barely (inches) missed a pack of flying geese. The ball landed foul and was not caught by the catcher, but it go me thinking....

what would have been the call if the ball hit the geese and landed fair? would it be a live ball or dead ball?

what would have been the call if the ball hit the geese and landed foul even though it could have been easily caught by a player?

I asked the lone umpire that was doing our JV woodbat game. He was very honest and said he did not know, and then we laughed. Wink

Thanks Blue!

The only time something like this comes into effect is on the pitch. If a pitch hits a bird, it is nothing but a "redo".

Batted ball or throw hitting an animal...play on.
