Doing sets of popping into throwing position is good, but there are many, many more drills and exercises you can do that will help your footwork.
Jumping rope (two feet quickly, 1 foot, side to side while jumping, scissor action with your feet while jumping, and high knee jogging/sprinting while jumping), ladder drills, cone drills, slides/shuffles, box drills, and pretty much anything explosive will help your footwork.
