FO,

Thanks for taking the time out of your day today to bring Matt over to talk to an eager 10 YO. I know Matt was probably tired of listening to this particular 10 YO's non-stop questions, but he answered every one of them and was (or at least acted) truly interested. You have obviously raised a great kid and I am just thankful he came by and saw the little man today. Not many college baseball studs would take the time to do that.

The little man told me after the game today that he wants a ball cube to protect the ball that Matt signed and he wants to wear #16 next season.

Please pass on to Matt our appreciation and let him know how much the impact his effort today meant to the world of a little 10 YO catcher. He hasn't stopped talking about it...heck he talked more to Matt than he has to me in a week. Big Grin

Matt represents what is right about baseball and he has a fan for life in the little man. Thanks for sharing him with us.

This one gets it. He understands that he is blessed to be playing the game and reciprocates that by blessing others that play or are around the game. Matt will get the most out of his talent and already gets others to respect the game. It is a shame other talented players don't understand their privelege.

Gotta be some decent parenting in there some where.

Matt just returned from a trip and was sitting at the computer when I was on the way out to work.

And, I said, "Oh, yow, I need to show you something."

So, I showed him you gracious comments.

We are all around players that "get it", but it only takes a bad apple or two to ruin it for all of them.

Your responses provoked a large smile, a "cool", and a positive reinforcement to a young man that I think will continue to "get it" regardless of the "sport".

Thank YOU.

That's a neat story. A reminder too for the older guys to consider the impact they can have on a young one.

Last night watching a CWS game, a foul ball was hit down by the wall. The camera showed this young kid, probably about ten, debating leaning over the railing to scoop it up. He didn't. A player jogged down there and picked it up and tossed it up to the kid. The smile on that little boy's face was priceless! You'd think it was the ball of a hall of famer or something! Will be a great memory for the child for many years, I'm sure!

Sounds like your Matt is one to be proud of FO!!

Old Pitcher......... WOW you have a kid playing college ball and he is a stud and doesn't mind giving back to the little guys. I bet your proud. What college does he play for and what position. I'll start keeping an eye on him

Surething,

My son is also named Matt, but he will be a junior at McKinney North HS in the fall. He pitched for Rockwall last year.

The Matt that we are talking about here is Matt Smith from McKinney HS that is a catcher at Texas Tech!!

He is FormerObservers son, and yes, he is a stud.
