I'm curious if there is a way to determine what the path of ball that was hit foul would be if it was hit squarely. For instance, if a pitch is fouled straight back, the kid is on the ball and I assume (maybe incorrectly) that if hit squarely it would have gone up the middle (or CF). In other words, where did the bat meet the ball in the zone.

I used to think to myself, just draw a line from where it went foul back the opposite way.

Specifically, I am thinking of a foul that went fairly hard back to the right (Righty hitter, assuming the hitter is the center of a clock, the ball went hard to about 4 o'clock). Am I correct to assume if hit squarely it would have been hit foul to left field.
