Yesterday, witnessed  one the freakiest and scariest injuries I have ever seen in baseball.    Left fielder comes sprinting in on a ball makes a diving catch at the ball.  Comes briefly to his knees and throws the ball in weakly, then collapses on the ground -- completely immobile.   Coaches rush out to him.  Trainer rushes out.  They guy is laying there and not moving a lick.    Turns out his chin hit the ground as he dived and his head snapped back violently.  They call an ambulance and take the guy away on a stretcher.  Hard  to get a clear word what exactly happened.   But it was obviously bad.   He lay there for quite awhile, motionless.   At first I was thinking maybe a concussion.   But that wouldn't explain the motionlessness.

The game was actually called by mutual agreement with an inning to go,  as  the home team was way ahead, and the players all visibly shaken.

Actually, the concussion could explain the motionlessness. The symptoms of concussions can take time as the brain reacts to the injury, either through self-prophylaxis or repair.
