Now if MLB.tv would just stop blocking out four different teams' games when I live five hours drive from the nearest MLB stadium.
Live channel tv is on the way to its death. It will be the end of cable tv. More and more live streaming services are dropping regional sports channels due to the highs cost.
MLB is reconsidering having blackouts at all. It may not be long before MLB streaming is the only way to watch your team.
Sinclair/Bally bought all the Fox regionals a few years ago. They’re losing a lot of money. All their RSN’s are up for sale.
For years cable has subsidized the cost of sports by making all customers pay for RSN’s. As viewers dump cable for streaming the heyday of non sports fans subsidizing sports fans is over. NESN stand along streaming is $30 per month. It’s only two sports (Sox and Bruins).
I figure some day soon we will be paying to watch NFL football. It’s why Al Davis moved the Raiders to LA in 1982.
