What do you think, is it ok to wear Competing school's gear to a college camp?

Son will be at USC pitching camp.
Been to many UGA camp's.
Only have UGA gear, and his H/S school color was Red&back/red&white last year don't have this years new green&white yet.
... Will this make him stand out in a bad or good way?
He wants to wear his Georgia gear, as his nick name is "Georgia Boy" at his new H/S here in SC.
Says if they give him gear he'll change right in front of them....

It's OK to wear competing school's gear to this camp, as long as it's not Clemson. Just kidding.

Been to this one a couple times. I don't think it matters that much. There are coaches from other conferences and high schools there helping out as well. You'll find most kids wear their high school gear or tees and caps but many from the area wear Gamecock gear and caps so for your son to wear his school colors or gear with a GA cap won't be out of the ordinary. As long as its 'baseball attire' it should be fine.
I don't know what to tell you about college coaches, but we were at a Major League tryout camp a single team was putting on and there were all these guys wearing gear from every ML team except the one putting on the camp it seemed. I overheard one scout say to another scout that " these guys have got to be a bunch of dummies to wear that stuff to our tryout." Don't know if it really means anything if the kid is a real prospect but some old school coaches could be offended by it.

Playfair's got it right.

Not sure why you would want to go to a college camp and wear a competing school's gear. Makes no sense to me.

For what its worth....have been to college camps with my son and seen the coaches tell campers not to wear a hat or shirt from competing school.

I'm sure there's enough travel team, MLB, etc. gear in the closet if your player just looks a little harder.

Use common sense. Why would you wear UGA wear to USC?.. You just would not. What message are you trying to send?

Say it out loud three times, if it sounds stupid don't do it.

I'm going to wear UGA gear to a USC camp.
I'm going to wear UGA gear to a USC camp.
I'm going to wear UGA gear to a USC camp.

What is the goal? To let them know that I would love to attend their school to play ball, and hopefully have them help pay for it.

Hey I'm from the South, and that even sounds stupid to me!
The advice we've gotten is fly the colors of the best team you've played on. So my son wears a hat from an elite travel team he played on.

That being said, I've seen college coaches react favorably when a player showed up wearing gear from that coaches school.

I like Prime9's advice re saying it 3 times out loud. I'm going to try it for some other decisions.
Couldn't agree more about the inadvisability of wearing a competing school's gear to a college camp.

One consideration for coaches when discussing recruits is whether the player is so predisposed to another program/school that it doesn't make sense for them to make the effort to recruit him. If a player shows up at A College's camp with B College's gear on, it's an easy conclusion (even if inaccurate) that he leans so far in B College's direction that they should focus their attention on the many other good players who are more neutral in their orientation.

Best of luck to your son!

(By the way, the NCAA prohibits them from giving campers gear.)

BTW Thanks all,
I as DAD didn't want him to wear UGA gear to USC but he was planing too. We don't want to use last years School gear as he don't go there anymore, His travel team shirt got ripped ez anuff to get a new shirt.
It will be cold and I think ever sport type coat he has ,Has a Big ( G ) on it and is Red/black .
After I have him read this maybe he will change his mind and we can go shoping for somthing that will stand out but not offend the school events we attend.

That's interesting, besides the camp shirt, had to buy the hat and any other gear you wanted.

Why would anyone want to wear any gear from one program to another program's camp, especially wear conference?

When mine went he wore to the camp a ML team hat, now come on, doesn't everyone have a ML team hat?

Not sure if you have been to so many camps why one would even have to ask.

BTW, if you attend the Clemson camp, don't wear gear from either USC or UGA. Razz
All good points above. As long as he doesn't show up in full UGA regalia but rather high scool practice attire or even get him a plain wrapper under armour, I don't believe that a GA cap will put him 'in the dog house'. There will be coaches from other colleges helping out wearing their full unis. If this is the SC Jerry Meyers Pitching / Hitting camp its for 12 yr olds to seniors. $225/for both days with lunch included(probably Subway), and there will be Gamecock gear for sale on tables as you come in. These camps are great for three things: income for coaches in the off season, providing quality instruction, and the participating college coaches getting a good look at some of the older kids. And likely in that order. We have been to this camp and the hitting camp freshman, soph and junior year and it's a quality 'get a lot out of it' camp. But like I said, I don't believe wearing the cap will garner any bad karma down the road. If your kid is wearing a GA cap and his work impresses the coaches, they'll have an interest in him regardless. That's what recruiting is all about. Convincing kids that may have interests elsewhere to attend their school.

USC must need the money they keep e mailing me.

Been to UGA a few times and other GA camps too never gave his clothes a sec thought. But we lived in GA at the time LOL. This is like going to an out of state camp.
But now as he moves up in H/S and I hear the opposing teams and parents say he is good. /shrug
Son seems to love playing , his teams win alot and it keeps him off the streets, may as well keep backing him.
