I'm helping my 2021 (rising Soph) map out his summer. End of July is the target date. That is the night of travel team tryouts for the 2019 season. He wants/needs to be in the best shape so far in his life for those tryouts. He says his #1 goal and biggest focus this summer is on getting BIGGER/STRONGER/FASTER
The travel team he is playing on this summer will play 6 straight weekends from June 9th through July 15th. I counted up a grand total of 16 days during that time that does not have a tournament game. That is, in his opinion, not enough days to get in all the lifting & sprint work that needs to happen this summer. For instance, there is one week where he finishes up a tournament in Green Bay on a Sunday, we drive home that night, then we start driving to Indianapolis 2 days later on that Tuesday night for a 5 day tournament.
Do you guys suggest finding gyms in the host cities of these tournaments to get lifting in? Do some extra sprint work on a side field after games during tournaments? He is already planning on getting some extra batting practice in during tournaments.
He's in 15U this year. If it matters, he doesn't pitch. He'll play 3B/1B/LF/RF this summer. The tryouts at the end of July are a big deal for him. He really wants to be on a top team for 16U in 2019 & 17U in 2020.
