I gotta go with Yankeelvr's advice. Your being there and helping out in a positive mode is your gift to them. Nothing else is need IMHO.
I like your attitude though. You obviously love the game and your willingness to go back and help out illustrates this. Nice job!

( Okkkkk,..but if you really think you must get them something,....Costco and I beleieve Walmart, makes a giant bucket of sunflower seeds, big enough that the lid of the bucket is made to be used as a seat to sit on! I think it runs for like $20. Kind of a fun idea, but again I really do think your helping out is all that is truely needed. Smile )

Where I once coached I received gifts that are so expensive that I just couldn't believe it. They went out of their way getting me golf clubs, golf shoes etc. At my school now, I get nicely framed pictures. My room is full of those and that is a gift that keeps on giving each time I look at those pictures. I guess I'm saying that it doesn't matter as long as the gift if from the heart!
I agree with Beezer. As a varsity head coach for many years, if I can find loyal, hardworking guys who will work for me everyday simply for the love of the game, I OWE THEM! All I can give my assistants are some great jackets/tshirts/etc. and a nice gift certificate - their support, friendship and help in practice are worth so much more.
How about a T-Shirt and a donation to a worthy cause?

Coaches Curing Kids' Cancer

By working with Coaches Curing Kids’ Cancer, you’re joining a movement that believes childhood cancer is a curable disease – and curable in our lifetime.

Coaches Curing Kids’ uses a simple concept: Children's sports teams donate the money raised for the coach's end-of-season gift to childhood cancer research. In return, the coach receives an original t-shirt, a certificate and the great feeling of helping kids kick cancer.

The money you donate to Coaches Curing Kids’ Cancer goes to cutting edge pediatric cancer research.

Best gifts I've ever received was a Personalized Louisville slugger with a message on it from the team. Also just a card, photo, or gift cards are nice. Oh I just remembered another great one... the guys hired the best artist in school to paint my jersey and then framed it; it looks like a real jersey in a frame but it is a painting (the artist was super-talented, every school has 'em).

For my assistants I take the wives or girl friends (and coaches) out to a steakhouse at end of season but I really like the idea that came out the gift to a charitable cause....
