Three games into the season and my son is hitting .600...Great you may say? He's only 3 for 5, with 5 BB's and 2 HBP's! Now I'm pretty sure an OBP of 800-something is good for a kid hitting in the 2-hole but is OBP something that college recruiters look at? He's a good hitter and leads his team in runs scored, but he's very selective at the plate and I'm a little concerned that if his numbers don't bulk up a bit no one's going to show much interest. I'm almost tempted to tell him to "start hacking" but it would go against everything he's been taught up until now. Any thoughts?

PT; Massfan and HC are correct. Don't worry about stats during HS season. College coaches don't have the time nor the interest in investigating all the HS stats to determine a players projected ability in college. Remember that some HS conferences are not that competitive and stats are meaningless in that case. It depends on opinions of people they trust, such as scouts, HS coaches they know, which could be an opposing coach for that matter, and seeing them play during the summer.
Visiting some colleges that your son is interested in, and asking for some time with the coach is also a good thing to do.
Be proactive and visit schools that offer more than BB as an attraction.
