Let him play without a glove for a week or so and then buy him a new one

We used to make sure out glove, bat, ball, cleats etc were under out bed every nite when we hit the sack--did that and fed my tropical fish in the ten tanks in my room--it was like a religious ritual--and the equipment was stashed and checked before the fish got fed and trust me I loved those fish--I bred them to sell to local stores but baseball was first
I would tell him that I paid for one glove. Either he can make that one work, or he can work to earn the money to replace it.

It's amazing how "forgetful" kids will start "remembering" when it's THEIR pain if they neglect their gear!

If you buy this kid a new glove, be prepared for a repeat performance, or other similar situations, or both.

BTW, the glove is probably not ruined, just needs some TLC. You may have more trouble with the rawhide strings than with the glove leather; could have to have it restrung.

Put a softball in the pocket and wrap it up to give it the shape you want. Hang it to dry someplace that is dry but not too hot. Glove should take about a week to dry out - don't put it out in the sun or in the oven! After it's dry apply a good leather conditioner such as Lexol. Using the Nakona conditioner (really pure petroleum jelly) is also a good method.
