I am looking for a new glove and was wondering what is the average size of the glove of a major league/college Shortstop? The last glove I had was 11.75 but I am looking to get an 11.5 or 11.25
A-SS3 - my son is a D1 SS. He just got a Rawlings Pro Preferred 11.25.
Here is the model number. I see the price has already come down a bit than when he purchased his in early January. He said these are soft leather gloves that are easy to break in.
PROS12IC 11.25-inch Rawlings® Pro Preferred Series baseball glove PRICE: $239.95
The PROS12IC 11.25-inch Rawlings® Pro Preferred Series baseball glove is the same model worn by Neifi Perez and Mark DeRosa. It features a Pro-Style I-web with reinforced X-lacing and conventional back for maximum hand flexibility in scooping ground balls.
Yeah, 11.5 is standard for a shortstop. But the manufacturers' gloves all run different. Rawlings runs true to me and it's kind of my baseline for comparison. Akadema and Louisville Slugger run similar to Rawlings. Wilson's accomodate a wider hand and their dimensions are a touch shorter than Rawlings. Nike and Mizuno run small. An 11.5 in Nike and Mizuno is about like a 11.25 in Rawlings.
We used to love SSK's. When we looked to replace his old SSK, we found the workmanship and customer service had dropped. He loved the 11.25 Wilson A2K at 1st sight.
