2B got his first questionnaire this week! I know for many of you that's not a big deal, but we didn't expect it so soon. It was from Liberty University, and who knows what kind of fit that will be in 3 years (he is a 2011), but I learned on this site that it's a good baseball school and the coach is a respected recruiter. So it is gratifying that he got noticed by a quality program. And so it begins... Smile Smile Smile

There's something else going on today...almost forgot. Go Rays!

2Bmom,
Congratulations! Makes going to the mailbox a little more fun from now on!

Tidbit:
Make sure you make a copy after you guys fill the questionnaire out to keep for your own records.
Its fun down the road to go back and read about not only who was interested but also fun to go back and see how much your son will have changed throughout the years! Smile

Get the file box ready!!

2Bmom....grab ahold of the highs and hold on. Remember that fun feeling. At some point in the whole process, it's gonna be tough to remember the fun!! That's not really a bad thing, just perspective thing.

I still remember the first questionaire we got in the mail....we're not even considering that school anymore. But at the time, that was "THE" school.

This very well could be one of the best roller coaster rides a parent ever takes. T Ball to college ball....WOW. I'm on the verge of making it to college ball, and I'm struggling to remember the fun part....lol

I hear from a reliable source that once they make college, the roller coaster ride isn't over, just a little different.....
Thanks everyone for the very good advice! Y'all are the best! Smile

463, truly I don't know. The HS is small, but the team is pretty good and he is a varsity starter. Still, my best guess is his summer team. It doesn't hurt that the coach is a local PG scout and a big believer in 2B. The interesting thing is that to the casual observer, he is not a star - he is just very solid team player at a pretty high level. He was 14 at the time, average size for his age, doesn't stand out physically in any way, and was starting 2B on a pretty good 16U team that went to all the tournaments that folks on this site speak so highly of (and for good reason) - Jupiter, East Cobb, Ft. Myers. He was a reliable contributor, but certainly not a star. The team had a couple of stars, for sure, and maybe that brought the right folks over to watch. The biggest stars were at SS (early verbal to UF) and C (played for team USA this year) so he was right in the mix. Anyway we were really surprised and pleased to get the letter, even though we had never heard of the school before.

One of the coolest things about it is that anyone who knows us would not see 2B at this school. So it was something completely random - somebody saw him and liked what they saw. What a great feeling - validation! He will definitely return the questionnaire - you never know what will happen. He'll start showcasing in December of this year, and is hoping the letters keep coming.

Moderator - I should have probably put this in the recruiting thread. I was excited and not thinking clearly. Smile Please feel free to move it if you think that is more appropriate.

Go Rays!!!

I'm no moderator, but I'm glad you posted here. I might have missed it. It is even more exciting and appropriate IMO now that you answered 463's question.

Congrats and best wishes.

That is what they were saying about another 2nd baseman (SS in college, but projected 2b pro)fairly recently. His name is Gordon Beckham and he was the White Sox #1 pick in the 2008 MLB draft.

Liberty is a very good program. Nick Schnable is one of the coaches there that I got to know when he was at Army. Very slick 2b in his day, played at East Carolina and moved up to AA before hanging them up and getting into coaching. Your son would benifit by playing for him in more ways than just baseball.

Best of luck

CPLZ, thank you. That is great information. I've started the file, and we will always have positive feelings about the first program to take notice.

jimnev, yes, indeed. Maybe we'll see your son at those summer tournaments in 09! It's going to be so much fun to go back!

Thank you all so much for the positive energy! It really does give us a boost.
