I don't know which league is better, but I'd advise you to check out the overall situation, just as when your son chose his college he looked at many more factors than strength of conference.

Acquaintances whose sons played their first season of collegiate summer ball reported widely varying experiences. Quality of league and even quality of team mattered much less than whether they got the reps they wanted at their desired positions. Guys who spent the summer in roles different from what they were preparing to compete for at their colleges were less happy, even if they were playing in a stronger league, than guys who were getting the work they wanted, regardless of the quality of the league.

My son is going back to the same team next summer in a middle-ish league primarily because the manager kept his word about giving him regular starts and he trusts him to do it again next year. Even if a team in a league a notch or two better had offered him a slot, I don't think he would have been tempted.

Best wishes,

He didn't perform too badly, either...

Thanks for the advice, Swampboy! My son has spoken to the coaches and decided to go with the Great Lakes team. His heart was set on the New York league, but after speaking with the coaches, he feels he will receive more playing time at his primary position with the Great Lakes team. I was proud of him for thoroughly checking it out and making what I believe is the right decision.
