GSBA Varsity League Playoffs

Did anyone watch the weather when they were moving playoffs to sunday? 70 on saturday and no daylight savings. 50 on sunday and rain. not sure if LAFA can do it on saturday but it sure makes alot more sense.

In all honesty on Monday when the schedule was set the forecast was reverse, Sat looked wet and Sunday looked good. The other problem was that we had told everyone that this was a Sunday league so many of our players work on Saturdays meaning they are unavailable on Satrudays for games. I personally did not want that to be a determining factor. At least one team said they could not field a team at all on Saturday.

If a team can't field a team on saturday it is probably because of other commitments ie: football, which brings up the problem of playing two sports. When selecting the team from Salem we were careful not to use any hockey or football players and as such were able to field a team any day , all season.

The coach I spoke to specifically said it was related to players obligations to work, he did not have any fall athletes on his roster according to emails I have exchanged with him. Its good to see that GSBA's parents and players are on this message board.

I just checked out the teams remaining and I was surprised to not see Keene or the Seacoast in the mix both those teams were solid, just shows the level of play in this league continues to get better.

Is Nick Poore on that Salem team? If so I assume he's pitching and I'll come out to watch that.

devildad, I just looked at the forecast and it looks promising for Sunday. I'll tell you what myself and Shippbuilder have been watching the weather for each weekend the past 13 weeks, I bet the weather next weekend is fantastic when we don't care what the weather is, you just wait and see. Tough tough fall for rain, really disappointing.

I hope so, it is my understanding that Seacoast took a forfeit and that is probably why they are out. We played them early on and they were tough. Many showcase pitchers and that ,I assume is why they couldn,t field a team. Nick is on our roster and I have to tell you watching this kid play is an absolute pleasure. His composure and game mentality are a thing of beauty. I am not sure if we will use him on Sunday or not (ha-ha). Lets play ball already.

You are correct about that Seacoast lost 8 players last Sunday and was unable to play. We are offering some winter programs, including pitching, and conditioning, I believe we are also working on a hitting program on Sundays.

Nice video...was fun to watch it!

Watched the game with Shipbuilder and GSBA behind home plate after Londonderry knocked us out.

Tough day for the hitters as Poore and Fisher battled. Would have loved to see Fisher fresh - he caught 7 innings against us in the previous game. The Salem offense took advantage of some errors and Londonderry had a chance in the 6th, but the video above shows how Poore shut it down.

It was a great day for baseball in November!

Bobby what is your view on Poore as a prospect?

To me, "prospect" implies professional - is that what you mean?

He's a solid pitcher. I saw him at the Londonderry Pitchers Showcase this summer and really liked his arm action. His delivery is smooth and consistent - has a lot of potential to be even more deceptive with his off-speed pitches. Will need more movement to get away with 83-86 at higher levels, but he's only a junior and will throw consistently harder if he works hard and takes care of his arm.

I'd love for him to meet Derek Miller from Pelham and talk pitching. I played with Derek in legion ball and at UVM. He made it up to AA with the Brewers after Tommy John and was a hard throwing lefty (88-90 in HS, popped 94 in college) with a good curve, change. He worked his butt off and I'm sure he could share some great insight into college/pro ball failure and success.
