Why was Joe Mikulik allowed to "rant" for so long. Why didn't the non ejecting umpire come out to remove the manager?

That is what they always teach us to do.

I love the "zombie" by the base umpire after he ejects the manager.

Agreed with all on not really being sure why this was allowed to go on so long. As we all have been taught, a good partner is to go to another partners rescue when being cornered by an irate coach. Your job, following an ejection, is to steer the coach away from your partner and assist him with leaving the field...

Now, this was an extreme case. I cant say that the crew could have done anything better to control this manager. he was dead set on having a major league meltdown..... Although his goal was to bring abuse and attention on the umpire crew and a supposed umpiring mistake, he only succeded in obtaining a 7 day suspension and a $1,000 fine......

The pro mechanics are a little different than what we practice in the amateur ranks. There is no "go steer him away from your partner" expectation at that level. Everyone is expected to be able to handle themselves and as long as it isn't a 2 on 1 situation a pro umpire will allow his partner to handle his own business. As it turned out this clown later went and accosted the UIC too, so I'm not sure that even if he had gone out there that it would have helped the situation.
