I took my son to the first Honor Roll camp held at the Va. Sports Complex last August (2005). The turnout was amazing, I think over 200 players. There were players there from all over the country, as far away as California. I hadn't realized until I got there that this camp's reputation was that good.
The camp had a large number of college coaches there, in many cases the head coaches. The focus was on high academic schools such as the Ivies, Georgetown, etc. A lot of D3 schools. UVA was maybe the most "big time baseball" program represented, with either one or two assistants. William & Mary was supposed to have been there, but they were absent due to a recent resignation of their head coach -- the new coaching staff was not yet in place.
Most of those attending were rising juniors. There were a lot of rising seniors. Only 3 rising sophomores, and no one younger.
This appeared to be a pretty good place to go if the player is a high academic achiever. The only drawback was that I thought the cost was a bit high, but I guess that was nothing compared to the air fares and hotel bills that many of the out-of-state visitors had incurred.
On that thought, if you find yourself interested in this camp, please reply. We actually had to withdraw from the camp due to injury and we have a camp credit that we aren't sure we can use. The credit is transferable and I would be willing to sell it at a discount.
