Stats were in the paper today. Let's be kind and say they had only a loose resemblance to the real stats. Why can't they come up with a more reliable method of compiling and publishng the stats?

So, does anyone care? Does any scout or college recruiter pay any attention? Or does the variability of the opposition and the small number of at bats make BA and the other High School stats meaningless?

They don't hold a lot of importance to the scouts let's say that. High School scorekeepers could be anyone from a parent, to a coach, to a player on the bench, so as you can see, consistency is many timnes a problem.

Big fish in small ponds also appear in many published stats. If a kid can play, the scouts are interested and they'll make their own judgement based on their own evaluations, not on league or team stats.
Everyone says that stats don't matter, but then everyone keeps track. We have a scorekeeper parent who is hard on our own boys. And we have had two terrible umpires rob pitchers of deserved strike outs (and upped their walks ratio) by squeezing the zone so small that almost nothing is a strike. I know that everything is supposed to equal out in the end, but that doesn't always happen if you get in to pitch about 5 or 6 games a season.
