I'm using an iphone 11pro from either a behind plate view, or 3rd base view (RHP). Then edit it in LumaFusion on the ipad. Once in a while I'll setup my Canon rig, but really no need to. IMO the GoPro is too wide for individual performances. When I have used it for games, I've mounted it with a LynkSpider mount.

Dumb question, how do you move the video to your iPad? Do you upload it to a cloud service or air drop it? I have an iPad but it’s under my wife’s Apple ID.

What is the Luminar app?  I wasn't able to find it in the app store.  I have been looking for an app to edit out the dead time between pitches.

Thank you all for the feedback. Are you guys with the iPhone's doing that for pitching/catching and at bats? Or are you mounting the camera to take constant video of the inning or some other incremental amount of time and then do?

Pitching/catching/hitting is pretty easy to get whatever footage one wants.

How do you get footage for position players? Is it non game footage or do you record half innings with a camera on your kid?

Thank you!

We were fortunate that our son’s travel team did full recruiting videos in February, before everything shut down

I would recommend taking video of your kid fielding grounders if you can.  Just have someone hit them fungos while you video.

College Coaches know Baseball (not to overstate the obvious).  In game stuff is nice but they can tell a lot from just what the kid looks like and how they move

I'm just doing this to get pitching video. Preferably from behind home plate, second option is from 3B side (RHP).

I am recording half innings when my kid pitches. With coaches unable to to get out, they want to see the whole picture, not just the highlights.

For position players, I'd use a GoPro and LinkSpyder to mount it.

iPhone 11 and iMovie to edit/trim/stitch pitching sequences. Keep at bats separate. Send each video to his Pitching Coach.  I also video Pitching Lessons. (behind/3rd base/home plate views) for my RHP Commit.  Get back to the house on WIFI and send individually.  For in game sequencing, I would record pitches and stitch the inning together and send while we batted to keep PC informed.

FYI, the coaches were/are able to watch live games via the video feeds at East Cobb at all the recent PG tourneys.

Semis and Finals broadcast for free on PG.TV which was nice coverage.

My 2021 son committed a couple weeks back so I'm done with video for now.  For 12 weeks straight during the spring Covid stoppage, my son was diligent about recording pieces of his workouts every week.  His targets would then get a Youtube link once a week to a 3ish minute compilation video.  He gave them all the typical stuff you see at a showcase/camp/etc but he spent a lot of time getting things that were different than the standard stuff.  It wasn't always easy to keep the videos fresh, but he pushed himself.

Once travel ball started, it was a grab bag of whatever we could get.  The club streamed/recorded some his games, but the quality was far from great and static, but we used what we could.  I wasn't able to travel with him much so he asked his teammates to film his ABs and warm ups in between innings from time to time with his iPhone.  Interest started heating back up with his top target and they were asking for more video including defense which posed a problem.  I had to bite the bullet and do some traveling.  It's a lot of work, but for 2 weekends straight I recorded every pitch/every play.  My son mostly played SS so I'd start zoomed in a little on the pitcher and the hitter (from behind the backstop) and as the pitch was delivered, I'd start to move the camera towards my son.  You can imagine how that goes.  Hurry up, hope and wait until he's able to field a ball.  Lots of starting and stopping.  On EVERY play.  Awful.  But the footage I got was great.  When his team was on offense and he wasn't up or on base, I'd go through and delete the plays where nothing happened with my son.  For me, it beat the hell out of combing through minutes or hours of one long video.  It was all work and pretty well sucked, but the footage we got and was able to send out was really good.  My son also still had peers record his ABs, so we even had multiple angles of some of his ABs.  Send me a message if you're interested in seeing any of the video he did.

Not sure if they still do it but MaxPrep had a service where they will video your kid, put together a recruiting video and give it to you (son did it).  Of course it cost some $$ but not much more than a high quality camp/showcase.  Video was professionally done through a contracted person/company.  It will probably depend on his high school but MP was allowed to be on the field before warm-ups (for individual footage), during warm-ups, and during the game (though off to the side behind 1st base).  No footage "behind the screen" other than my personal video that I wanted them to incorporate.  Maybe inquire with MP if that is still an option.

My son's school has an award winning video production program. They are working on a plan to mount cameras on both sides and behind to video every home game. Then the students in the program will be cutting the video for specific athletes. They are already doing it for football and hoops. Someone donated the money for the hoops cameras and what they can do is pretty ridiculous. I doubt the baseball footage/cameras is as good as the hoops footage.
