Met the new coach at a Rice camp last summer. I have posted before that I think the baseball people in Forney are really going to enjoy this. My son had a blast playing on his camp team. I even heard Coach Farrow tell one of the Rice coaches to "Sit down bus driver." We scrimmage Forney at noon on saturday, weather permitting. I might have more to report next week, but I am only good at reporting the good things I see.
forney, red oak, and poteet should not have any problems making the playoffs. i think the 4th spot will be between mabank and terrell followed by west mesquite and lancaster. the top three teams should match up pretty good with 16-4A in the playoffs. i know that midlothian opens the season ranked 10th in the coaches poll, but i think corsicana will win that district followed by midlothian, ennis, and waxahachie.
Forney should have a really good team but the heart of the team is the 3 seniors Jeffery, Etherly and McEuen. The difference between Forney being good and great is the leadership and contribution of the these 3 seniors. If they produce Forney could go a long way. Blackmon and Sutton will be will be good on the hill and behind the plate and Sutton should be good with the stick. This is a good team with lots of team players.

This may just look like a two team match up but do not count out seagoville..

Not sure of the kids name, but in a playoff game last year, they threw a kid 150 pitches and then moved him behind the plate. I think he hit in the four hole as well. That kid was the only chance they had at winning. A lot of district 11-4A has caught up with Seagoville, but they can still win a playoff match-up against another DISD team and then they are done.
Forney 9, Ennis 3
Forney 14, Seagoville 2
Forney looked good but it showed they hadn't been on the field this year with most struggling at the plate. Jeffery had some control issues but did a good job and Blackmon looked in mid season form on the hill. Lots of others pitched but the coach was looking at a lot of younger and previous JV players. Mceuen, Eatherly and Jeffery looked really good at the plate with lots of hits and several doubles and a triple. Blackmon had several hits too. J. Hay showed some power banging the fences.I would say Forney played well executing consistently. No great arms or bang it out of the park guys but solid and you look up and the score is lopsided. Seagoville is not good and Ennis is just Ennis.
Ennis,Forney, Seagoville

With no scorebooks on the field, the parents were the only one's who kept score. Typical first live outing for all three teams. Some bright spots, some areas that need more work for all. Most of the runs scored by Ennis and Forney came after multiple walks. Forney and Ennis both hit Seagoville pitching pretty hard, but I'm sure they will work hard on that in the coming weeks. I think it all went well enough that each staff got a good look at where they are at. Ennis seamed to be looking at individuals, as they batted a different line of batters every nine batters throughout the day. We didn't have a scorebook in the pressbox, so I can't really contribute there.

I rarely make any assessment until I've seen 6-8 games. I had 2 parents last night that already know what the line up and batting order should be after 1 controlled scrimmage. Only 5 seniors, 2 start. Good middle infield ss Tyler Hobbs- 2b Michael Jurik. Fast outfield, Nate Dixon-Kyle Haskovec. Very good 1b Seth Zhanel. Good catcher, strong arm in Jon Lewis. Very tough district, but with Colton Cain and Drew Harrison gone from Waxahachie, may be openings for the rest of us.
Sr. ss Tyler Hobbs is getting recruiter attention.
Jr. catcher Jon Lewis is getting a lot of recruiter attention. Both are high on the charts academic wise, and are getting a lot of attention from those type schools. Can throw 5-6 pitchers in a game, so we don't have to leave anybody out there too long when they are in trouble. The Mesquite tournament should tell us a lot.
Jackrabbitdad, I-30 Classic teams are Heath, Terrell and Midlothian playing at Heath on thurs.
Rockwall, Fornery, and Permian playing at Rockwall. Forney vs Rockwall at Noon, Forney vs. Permian at 3 and Rockwall vs
Permian at 6. Then on friday Forney plays Midlothian at Heath at 1. the other pool is Royce City, Dallas Christian and Wylie. This was in out parent packet from a couple of weeks ago.
JackRabbitDad,

I too live out of town and don't get to watch many of the games but have continued to follow them anyway. I have a friend that fills me in on the games and I'll try and pass this on to you when able to.
Forney lost both games on Saturday but could have won both if not for an inning in both games. In the E. Trinity game Forney looked good from the start but faded somewhat in the last inning. Pitching looked pretty good until the last inning. Forney hit the ball pretty good too. A home run in the top of the last inning put Forney up by one but the pitching gave up the lead in the end.

The Birdville game was similar to the first except that Birdville scored most of their runs at the beginning of the game due to fielding errors and pitching lapses. After the first inning Forney seemed to settle down and played a pretty good game. Not sure of the score from either game. Hope this helps.

Forney opened the season with a NO-NO. Forney senior LHP Kyle Jeffrey threw a complete game no hitter in a 6-0 win over Mansfiled Timberview.Forney was led at the plate by senior Josh Eatherly who had 3 RBIs. In the 6th inning Jeffey was helped by spectacular defensive plays by Corey Blackmon and Trevor Mceuen. In the 7th another defensive gem by Eatherly
Forney lost to Sulphur Springs 6-5 blowing a 5-1 lead late and Nac 6-1 today. Coach Farrow is still making changes to get a look at all his players and combinations.Highlights have been Mceuen defensively at 2nd and 3rd and Eatherly in center field. With Eatherly in center Forney has struggled turning the routine double play from shortstop and it continues to cost outs and runs. Utilization of younger players in various positions has not worked except for Reese at first. Forney appears solid with the starting nine in place. Blackmon and Jeffery look pretty good on the hill. It is still early

Orville, Blackmon is a junior. Forney has a very good team and will come in second in the district behind Poteet. I am "very" familiar with both teams star players Poteet is just to strong. Don't believe what Go Pirates is feeding you its just a game he's playing! Poteet has one of the best teams in the area this year!
Orville, This is from a Rockwall Heath fan one of the top ranked teams in the state.

Okay, Beast and Go Pirates. I am sure that someone, somewhere is buying your poor, poor, pitiful Poteet act but after you guys run those 3 pitchers out there and win 30 games this year you guys will have to come clean. Poteet is one team on a short list in our region that has a very legitimate shot at playing in Dell Diamond this June. Yes, Heath has some pitching also but we also have 2 sophomores that we are counting on, so who knows? I think Poteet runs roughshod though their district and makes a long playoff run.

Beast you are playing the same game as Go Pirate. I'm not quite sure why your down playing the talent on your team, maybe you just don't want to get your hopes up! But I know you do not truley believe Forney and Red Oak are better than Poteet. For us guys that are familiar with the players on all the teams it's not that difficult to predict! But you are doing a convincing job. Just keep playing the game it will all come out in the end!

If I'm reading this correctly Beast there are two teams on that list that are in 15-4A with us. That makes us third in district I believe.
The word coming out of the Poteet practice today is that either Nowell or Taylor will start Tuesday at Forney. Both threw complete games giving up 1 ER and making the all-tournament team last weekend. They have, by far, been our most consistent pitchers so far. They will probably throw a couple of innings each Friday and which ever has the best outing will start Tuesday. I will be surprised if we don't see Blackmon Tuesday. Good luck this weekend.
So far, not so bad for Forney. According to the stats on Dallas Morning News, Forney pitching gave up 3 hits each game and only gave up three runs, those being in the 3rd game. Only 3 errors in 3 games and that is good for Forney, based on some prior years. How did Jeffrey and Hay look? Couldn't have been too bad based on the outcomes. Think they're ready for Poteet? They surely better be. I know that Poteet would really love to take Forney down hard (and vice versa).
Both pitchers looked pretty good. a little role reversal with Blackmon struggling slightly with control and Jeffrey was more consistent. Forney was flat at the plate against W.T. White with an attitude that this is DISD and not much of a challenge. The WTW pitcher was pretty good as time went on. Forney looked more up against Cedar Hill but was still not as aggressive as usual. Every game vs Poteet is a grudge match even with the fans and Poteet fans show their class with out the cl

Thanks for the confidence in Poteet. But there are at least two very good teams in this district besides us. And I believe that it will be very tough to beat them 4 times. We have a big test tonight with Forney. Those guys can swing the sticks from what our scouts said last weekend. I hope we can keep it close tonight and have a chance at a victory.

JRD I don't know if they stream on the internet but the station is 88.5 fm Mesquite.
Beast,
Thanks. Just my type of luck. I hate "blind" rooting. I never know how much good (or bad) I'm doing for the team. Good luck tonight. I hope it's a game that is well played, close and both teams can be proud of their performance, win or lose. However, that's a lot to ask of 18 year olds with a rivalry game that each wants very, very badly.
Blunt also had a home run in the win.

Great effort from a young man whose been doing this for a long time now. Howard is getting a good one next fall.

Austin would be on Dale Hansen's sunday night show this week if the producers weren't concerned that they'd have to put his dad on, too. The elder Mr. Blunt has the quintessential "face made for radio." If anyone, anyone at all, would agree to pose as Austin's "good looking stunt double dad" the kid could finally get some publicity.
Austin did a great job. Forny was very flat and Poteet took advantage of a few miscues. Forney looked uncomfortable from the time they stepped on the rubber.A difficult place to play on a uncomfortable surface. The Forney hitters never got comfortable in the box and Austin just kept throwing strikes and the hitters just looked. Not taking away from Austins performance it is a rare feat. Pottet did not look as good as I expected but Forney made them look better. it is early and we will see how it plays out

get rid of this thread. Especially after last night. No one cares.

You want to get rid of this thread because a bunch of 16-18 yr old kids had a bad game? Your smarter than that hornsr1. This game was 0-0 into the bottom of the 3rd and if it weren't for a couple of spectacular plays on defense we would be talking about a different outcome. Blackmon made two or three bad pitches and Poteet took advantage. You can't get rid of a thread because of that. Beast and I have been trying to tell y'all that we aren't that good and I think last night showed that. We just took advantage of some mistakes and Forney didn't get that chance. It's a long season and it will still be Forney, Red Oak, and Poteet all right together when May rolls around.
Good observations go pirates, Forney only had a couple balls hit out of the infield all night, both were pretty good hits too, but when that's all you get from your hitters you really don't have any chance. Both teams looked fairly equal taking away the errors by Forney. Looks like both teams are fairly equal but haven't seen Red Oak play. Could be a good race for district this year.

The word I heard is yesterday's game against Rockwall was relatively uneventful for Forney offensively with the exception of a 2-run home run by Blakely. Forney pitchers gave up 2 home runs, one by Hay and one by Eatherly. The final was 5-2. The game against Odessa Permian was a horrible defensive game. Regardless of pitching, the ball stayed in the park and dropped and misplayed by most all Forney defensemen. The final was 12-1. Both Forney losses. To try and lay blame on the pitching is a total scapegoat. I was told Forney had 7-8 errors, not typical of Forney baseball.

Today's game against Midlothian was a total opposite of yesterday's games. Forney came out offensively and got the runs when needed. Blakely hit a grand slam in the first inning and the rest of the squad contributed as well at the plate. Hits/walks up and down the lineup. This game only had a couple of errors and a good outing for Jeffery on the mound going the distance for the win. Forney wins 10-7 over Midlothian.

Forney plays tomorrow at 10:00 am @ Rockwall Heath.

This was all passed onto me by FHS staff and friends that keep me up to date on the games.
Hope this helps JackRabbitDad.
I said JV type pitching not JV pitchers. Yes there were lots of miscues but you can't just serve it up at 74 regardless if you are spotting it. Also you have to put your best 9 on the field not play weaker players if you are not going to get an A game on the hill. Not scapegoating as I said lots of errors. Poor performance all the wy around. Forney is a little inconsistent a the plate but pretty solid defensively with their starters in place.
4NEEBBALL, from the reports I received, the errors were committed by the everyday starters, 3rd base, shortstop & center field. While the Forney pitcher didn't have overwhelming speed the ball never left the park and was made playable. Regardless of pitching performance not many games can be expected to win if you can only score 1 run. And reports were that the Permian pitcher wasn't as good as the Forney pitcher. The exception here is that Permian put the ball in play and Forney couldn't make the play.
Once again not defending the error situation or the poor hitting. I am only saying the mind set of the players and confidence level is offset somewhat based on who they are on the field with. Chemistry is huge in baseball and Forney has that with the right personel on the field. I am sure it will get better for all as the development of players continues. You seem to want to defend the pitcher, he needs no defense (except when he is on the hill), good kid, swings with power, but grooves it at 74, it is what it is.
Heard it was Forney prevailing 24-0, 2 pitchers combined for a no-hitter (possibly a perfect game). That's all I've heard. Anyone able to embelish (or correct) this?

This has to be demoralizing season for Lancaster. Prior to last night, based on the DMN stats, Lancaster, in seven games, have given up 142 runs while scoring 3. Their R-H-E numbers total 3-6-21. I can't imagine how these young men are feeling at this point.
Blackmon and Reese combined for a "perfect game", but it was Lancaster. The whole Lancaster program needs revamping. Lots of walks, hits, a HR and Forney pulled most starters after the 2nd. Forney needs more intensity and for a couple of the juniors to be about the team and not their own agenda to become the team they are capable of being. Jeffery,Sutton and Eatherly continue to lead the way at the plate
Thanks for the update on the game. Also got info from other sources via email that also spoke of Jeffery and Sutton but was told that Eatherly was struggling a bit at the plate with too many K's. Hope he can turn things around. Didn't know there was a HR hit, do you know who hit it. There seems to have been several hit this year for the Forney club which is an improvement from last year's team. Hope they can keep it up throughout the season.
It was Blakely that hit the HR and I think he has 4 hrs for the season. I hope Blakely continues swinging for the fences. Eatherly is in the top 3 avg wise but you are right he has several strike outs lately. He seems to struggle with wide strike zones. A bit too picky at the plate and that is bad in high school too many k's looking. McEuen is the one that Forney needs to turn on at the plate. He was a top hitter last year and I expect he will come on as district gets in full swing and Forney needs his bat.
