Sorry if this has been covered already. I've been off this site trying to hold everything down.
The initial shock and mourning period is over obviously. My son has been home for a few weeks and he is back into his spring classes remotely like everyone else right now.

His team and he personally was off to a really great start this spring when the season was cut short. The team was unexpectedly at the top of the RPI charts, and holding their own against much stronger competition. My son was looking at a breakout season, and then it was all over before conference play even began.

We've had a couple heart to hearts. He is a pretty quiet kid and doesn't share much. He did talk about how you never know what's going to happen one day to the next. He seems to be making the best of it. Trying to stay healthy. Working out, etc. Looking forward to Summer ball and hoping it comes to pass.

How are your players handing the situation? Everybody good?

It's really rough.  My son's school gave them an extra week of spring break before online classes began (today), which I think was a mistake, because it makes classes seem like an eternity ago. He has been playing hours and hours of video games.  Gyms are closed, we have only a few weights in the house, he's been doing what he can. Found an outdoor batting cage, but he really wants to throw with someone, and hasn't figured that out yet.  We have asthmatic people in the house, and he is very aware that the risks are higher for them.

He is a freshman, things were going well, and no-one has any idea what will happen this summer, I know the summer leagues are still hoping they will get to play.  But, if he doesn't get the virus now (we are keeping pretty isolated) then he will probably catch it if he plays baseball in the summer.

Someone brought up the excellent point that host families will probably be reluctant to bring strange kids into their homes - and justifiably so. This will definitely complicate Summer ball.

It's hard to say.  Baseball was going great, both for the team and for son personally.  Freshman year was going great.  Then it stopped literally as they were preparing to board a bus for an away weekend.  He went straight to the airport with the stuff he had with him for the weekend trip.  This was three weeks ago.  He's been home ever since, trying to keep up with classwork, staying connected to his college buddies, re-connecting with his HS friends.  It's weird, like he's stuck between two worlds right now.  His spirits are good but deep down I'm sure he's feeling like he got screwed.  It helps that everyone (every school, every level, every sport) is in this together.

He just talked to his coach the other day.  It was good to feel that connection.  I think his head is now looking to August for the start of fall ball.  Right now is down time and he's hoping to use the early part of summer to hit the weight room, resume hitting and long toss, etc.  He wants to pick up where he left off and have a big year.  His hunger for more seems stronger than I've seen it, so that's something good coming from this.
