Riprope,
Very good question… Your son needs exposure but exposure is hard to measure. Camps and showcase are different as night and day. Camps expose your son to usually one college of that particular division/conference and a few others of a different division and a pro scout or two. For instance, if you go to a camp at Vandy, UT or UK will not be in attendance, but some JUCO coaches might see him. On the other hand a showcase draws all college divisions, plus pro scouts. Be aware that there is a regional flair to almost all showcases except the huge national events.
My son had two schools he wanted to be recruited by. We attended their camps. We also targeted one showcase, Midwest Prospects because we could plan ahead and secure a spot. We didn’t know at the time if he would be invite to a PG or a TeamOne event because they were by invitation only at that time. Turns out he was invited but our “recruiting budget” was already spent.
Back to your original question: I would at least target one high profile showcase like Perfect Game and one camp to your son’s dream school...if he has one. If your pockets are deep, go to three or four showcases. Underexposure can have a negative effect on your son’s future...Overexposure is just expensive.

you know the money we spent on showcases and camps last yr(and we only went to 2) we could of put him thru a local d1 school for a year. I'm including travel expences and our hs requires $450 a yr and legion is $600. our local campus doesn't recuit local talent because they don't want to put up with the daddy factor.
Our plan in 05 is maybe 3 (perfect game, and blue grey and a return trip to the vandy camp)
thats bout all the ole budget can take. Thanks for your replys.
