You guys are funny. How much? The answer is TOO MUCH! But like everyone else, we spend what we can to get the maximum results. Just make sure you have a realistic gauge on his talent level, including physical skills. No one will ever say no I don't want your money. You've got to research first. The HSBBW is a good place to start. I have told my son he has to pay me back for the driving, lessons, travel, showcases, plane fare, and equipment by doing the same thing for his son.
In calculating the true cost of baseball, I wonder..

There has been a bit of an ulterior motive all these years keeping my sons involved with baseball, I'll admit. Yes lately, there is this quest for a scholarship, but originally, I figured by keeping them involved with baseball they'd be too busy to get into trouble. And trouble can cost real money.

Even if my kid would have otherwise turned out just fine without baseball, and I'm sure he would have, also consider the positive impact of the sport: Baseball teaches individual work ethic, team play, discipline, and following through with a plan; all the things that make us successful in life and business. So I'm convinced there will be a "payback", but not to me but my kid by making him a more responsible, goal-driven person.

As for me in the meantime, I'll admit, the pride I derive from watching him play is very addicting, and undoubtedly money fuels the habit.
I have spent about 7K a year for the last few years for my son to play travel ball and also pitching lessons. But I do feel we got more then just baseball from these experiences. My son lost his dad to cancer when he was 6 yrs. old. I wanted him to have some good positive male role models in his life. He had a wonderful travel ball coach that taught him responsibility, respect, leadership. He also had a pitching coach that taught him confidence and patients. I think 7K a year was a small price to pay for the role models that taught him things that will remain with him the rest of his life. I will always be thankful to them for taking the time to help my son develop into not only a good baseball player but also a wonderful young man.
Thank you EH. Making the decision to let my son play travel ball was very hard for me. I know it is a great commitment. Being a single working parent, I was not sure I could handle the commitment. I will say that I have never missed a travel ball game in the 3 years that he has played. I now know that the decision I made to let him play was the right decision. He has experiences and memories that will be with him forever....Did I mention that I love baseball?...LOL
