I will give this a try:

5A:
1. Coppell (Walsh, Kettler, Elkins, Morris to come)
2. Colleyville (good balance between hitting and pitching)
3. Arlington Martin
4. Southlake Carroll
5. Plano East (best 1,2 in DFW...another thread)
6. Plano West (up their with Coppell and Martin as far as hitters)
7. Flower Mound Marcus
8. Rowlett
9. Newman Smith (sleeper)
10. Flower Mound

9-5A toughest district

4A:
1. McKinney
2. Poteet
3. Highland Park
4. Waxahachie

9. Frisco Cent.
10. Arlington Heights

* 9-4A toughest district
I agree with Dodger, except CV Heritage is too high as this team has a bit to prove 1st. I would move Martin to close No. 2 behind Coppell. I would add Keller in the top 10 somewhere with their hitting and Merck's pitching (hitting).

I would give Coppell the top slot not only with the 4 kids mentioned by dodger but the pitching will be strong with Malone and Hermans (who threw an excellent game against CV Heritage last week).

The first two weeks have been great baseball, I'm use to be a list / rankings guy. Now I am just in awe of how these young men go out there and compete.

Top 10 in DFW, wow I am not qualified but I enjoy every one's thoughts. Coppell has played some very good teams early and any one of them could end up at the top of their District, Colleyville Heritage could have broken out and beat Coppell at any point, Keller Central did, Plano East did today / yesterday ( it is late). Tomorrow / Saturday should be interesting for Coppell against Arl Martin, it could be a blood bath, they owe Coppel a little pay back from last year's tournament.

I posted else wher earlier tonight and my point didn't come through so I will be a little more direct about Coppell, this season is about TEAM not K's & W's or M's to come but guys like Andy and Bobby and Greg and even the Frosh - baby tooth. If they get to state it will be because of the seniors and the juniors all coming together.

I think that can be said for McK North, Poteet, HP, Plano East, Arl Martin and the rest. That is what I am trying to watch for in these early season tournaments.

Expo has it right about Keller, that TEAM has something that just can't be quantified and they will give everyone a fight this year maybe even more than last year...that is saying a lot.

For what it is worth,

1. Arl Martin
2. Plano East
3. Coppell
4. Colleyville Heritage
5. Rowlett

After that is anyone's guess

4A -

1. McKinney North
2. HP
3. Wax
4. Arlington Heights
5. Denton Ryan
Meatsdad -- before my comment, I want to tell you that I'm not dog piling here. Smile We've communicated in private and our kids have played together and against each other. It's all good. But you mention TEAM, followed by individual accolades --- that in itself can appear as a contradiction. With that said, I don't think special accomplishments necessarily detract from TEAM. My impression after seeing our guys battle Coppell today is that the Cowboys play as a TEAM. I am hopeful that our guys grow into a TEAM --- it's a process.

I too marvel (each year) at the early season stats. What a great group of players in this town. Kids step up every game and do great things -- it's fun to watch. I love searching the box scores for names we know. The list is growing.

As we've discussed, Joe Q Public loves lists. I can tell the world that Plano East is not a top 5 team ---- but we're capable of beating any of them. Entering the "real" season with that hope makes it special, eh?

Peace.

Good post PD,

I want to add, check out a team when they are losing by 5 or 10 runs. That is when you truely see the TEAM aspect of a team. There seem to be a lot of front runners in this generation. How are the juniors and seniors of all these teams acting when they are behind...........that is when you will see the true character of a team. JMO.

Poteet is way to high in both polls.

Agreed, Poteet has more to prove before we can be ranked that high. We lost alot. HP is number one in my opinion.

Do you agree with everthing Beast says ?? Obviously you are a Poteet Fan -- stick to your guns don't let the beast talk you into sand bagging
Plano West should be #1 and better be #1 when the DMN rankings come out. Should be in the top 5 in the state rankings as well when it comes out.

I say better be #1 because of the way PW finished last year, the returning players, new talented Soph's, newcomer and the undefeated start.

Say what you want about the competition but sweeping the McKinney schools the past two weeks says alot.
"Better be ranked no. 1", is pretty strong. Many programs have shown to be worthy...Coppell, Arlington Martin, Colleyville Heritage, Rowlett to name a few. Other teams who have had very good wins; Hebron vs. Cosart, Plano East vs. Coppell and Martin, Newman Smith winning their tournament, Grapevine winning a tournament, Plano winning a tournament.

Rankings this early in the year is still an educated guess (like all rankings until the playoffs). However, once district play starts you will get a better idea of a teams skill/ability, character, etc.

GO PLANO WEST!

Yep

"The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It's been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt, and erased again. But baseball...is a mark of time. This field. This game. It's a part of our past, Ray. It reminds us of all that once was good. And it could be again. Oh...people will come, Ray. People will mostly definitely come."
I think 5A has five teams that compare a lot and possibly could be number 1.(Plano West, East, Martin, Colleyville Heritage, and Coppell.) Haven't seen many of these teams play yet but Heritage is definately special this year!

I do not know much about 4A this year but I have seen Arlington Heights and Denton Ryan play. Neither one was too special for me. I think they both have one great pitcher and 4 other guys who are pretty average.
