The tornadoes of April 27 here in Alabama changed my life. Not from damage to my house, but from my awareness and preparation for natural disasters. Over a week with no power and all that entails will humble you, and change your thought process. I am praying for people experiencing this hurricane now. My son is at USNA Annapolis, and my HSBBWeb friend Bear lives in Maryland, I hope they are riding it out OK.

In NC the power outages are due to damage. CNN reported a plant went off line in Maine due to a transformer being hit by debris.

I'm a bit concerned about G---62. There was a lot of damage to the island.

and Vermont might be sliding into the Atlantic soon. golly.

My brother in NJ had nothing while my friends a bit further north had extreme flooding.

I heard this morning 11 have died.

If they had not given out warnings more could have been killed.

I don't get why people in the outer banks stayed in their homes and now stranded and have to be brought food and water. Frown

Kill Devil Hills got pounded.

Lots of rain, and not so much wind here in Northern NJ. Basement had water coming in through the floors for the 2nd time in 20+ years (last time was hurricane Floyd). Our power stayed on, but many around us still have none. My son and I spent Saturday night with a wet vacuum and mops to keep the water contained to a small area and away from the boiler. Lots of people had it much worse, then losing a nights sleep. Many within 5 miles of us where taken away from there houses by boat. They remain in my prayers.

Over 4 million lost power. Here in MD we had 820 K lose power, second most to VA. I think about half have been restored. My county still has over 80 K without power. No school today, and I know that my son's school still doesn't have power. They expect all power to be restored by this weekend. My power went out briefly a couple times, but never lost it so I'm lucky. I got a small roof leak but I can live with that. Got about 6 inches of rain in about 18 hours here on top of already saturated ground. Quite a few downed trees and some flooding, but nothing close to Isabelle in 03.
Finally got cable back (therefore internet) All of mine are OK, lowest level of house flooded, not too bad compared to others here on the Westside...for those familiar w/ area, Colington, Bay Drive in KDH, Kitty Hawk Village, Kitty Hawk Landing, Martins Point, Manteo, Manns Harbor,Wanchese, stumpy Point, bad flooding. Hatteras Island bad soundside flooding and new inlet just north of Rodanthe.Crazy thing we never lost power.Spent the last two days scrubbing/disinfecting. No idea when school will start. They started to let tourists back in today, many are upset that they didn't keep them out at least one more day....oceanfront up this way is good and that's they'll be hopefully. A few sightseeers around and it makes people angry. They have enough energy to go look at others misery, but not enough to volunteer to help out...errrrrrr! Here's a link to some pics, many in my neighborhood (most) http://youtu.be/z0n_WeK3aqc Thanks all for your concern.
