A couple of things to mention:

Being close in performance does not equal being close in talent.

Most people are much worse than they think at evaluating talent.

I think most MLB organizations can seperate the hype from the talent itself. Look at Bryce Harper...perhaps the most hyped baseball player of all time, but you don't have to look very hard to find scouts that aren't huge fans.
