Well, the Marlins let Joe go today. Talk is he didn't get along with management. I can understand that.
What I can't stand is MLB continues to let their owners (been a few) let us down, year after year. Just think a relatively new franchise with TWO, not one, but TWO championships. Knock em down, build them up, year after year.

So I have decided to make a change, I need your help to decide, I need your BEST reasons why you LOVE your team and why I should too. No more homegirl fan here anymore!

Some possibilities:
Yankees, I grew up on Yankees, I only knew yankees, my dad was a yankee fan, my brother is in love with Jeter and I love those pinstipes. Something about a guy in pinstipes! But they spend too much money, and have not had good returns since 2000. Justbaseball thinks Jeter is a STUD (did he ever mention that). And I do LIKE AROD!

Red Sox, now my son told me that their fans are awesome, the place is nuts and Bawwwston is a great town! And RED!

Pirates, now our Zach plays for them, he is a big fav around here, I like watching him pitch!

Cinci Reds, Cardinals, Phillies, Angels, they all have RED in their uniform and I love the color red.

Detroit, now they are Tigers too, so that is a big possibility, besides, my mom is from Detroit.

Cubbies, now I know lots of cubbie fans, and I think Joe may be headed there. I liked Joe, I can relate to those who go against management. Big Grin

White Sox, nahhh too many white sox fans already on this site! Besides I do not like their manager. If he worked for Jeffery Loria, he would have been TOAST!

Padres, they have a great park I hear, and Bullwinkle's fav team and I know a ss that went to Clemson that plays on that team. Wink

Mets, best in the national league, for now. They have to really pull it off for me to go over to their side! Convince me.

Orioles, they used to spring train here in Ft Lauderdale, got lots of Orioles stuff and with that color orange, that could go with the Clemson decor here.

Rangers, that's my grand dogs name, but they reside in Texas, as do the Astros. I have never been to Texas, I am not sure I want to go to Texas.

Dodgers, now if Maddux stayed for life I could consider this a strong possibility even being so far away.

Royals, like that crown! Too bad they don't play like royalty!

Nationals, I like DC, but I am not a republican.

Braves, used to be son's best team, but they have changed and that chant drives me nuts. Who used it first anyway, Braves or the Seminoles? Could you imagine if they played against each other. Ear plugs please and extra strength excedrin!

Cleveland, though I like red, same as above. Do they do that chant by the way?

Brewers, Rockies, Diamondbacks, Blue Jays, Twins,Mariners, I just don't know all so very far away.

A's, like that team but I just can't stand the use of green and yellow in their uniforms.

Giants, no way, I am NOT a Bonds fan.

Tampa Bay, now that is pretty close, but do they have any fans?

C'mon, TPM, do you need new glasses, too? Big Grin Take a look at Joe Mauer - handsome boy-next-door looks, modest, great young catcher, and he wins a batting title. There are lots of other good reasons, but I think if you take a good look at all these nice young kids on the Twins, you will want to adopt them all! Big Grin
Could be a possibility, that's why I liked the Marlins, I loved watchign those yuong guys having a good time!

BTW, did you see the SI article on Mauer and Justin Morneau (St. Paulie Boys). They showed pics of their house (they live together), sort of like an odd couple, one neat, one not so neat. Cute!
Ok, TPM, my vote is that you adopt the Pittsburgh Pirates as your new favorite team. Here's a bunch of reasons why.

1) PNC Park. Absolutely GORGEOUS place to see a ball game. Plus, the walk across the Clemente bridge to the game is, well, it just is. Nothing like seeing the confluence of the Monongahela and Allegheny.

2) History. Played in the first World Series. Played the only World Series that ended with a walkoff Game 7 HR. (1960) (Joe Carter's to beat the Phillies was in game 6) Played in the first World Series to have a night game (1971) First World Series team to adopt a disco song as their theme song Smile (1979)

3) They were my favorite team growing up, 2 hours north of Pittsburgh. We were split in my town, you were either an Indians fan or a Pirates fan. My father told me of going to Municipal stadium to watch Indians/Yankees doubleheaders in the 50's. Something still drew me to the Pirates, though. Saw my first game in Forbes Field in 1969. Last time I was in the 'burgh with my family, I took my baseball playing son to Maz's wall, the only part of Forbes Field left standing. Told him about Maz, and Gene Alley, and Bob Robertson, and Bob Prince, and Chicken on the Hill with Will (you "older" Pirates fans will know what I"m talking about) By the way, best way to find it? Go to one of the Carnegie-Mellon museums and ask one of the old security guards. The young ones have no idea what you are talking about Smile

4) Roberto Clemente. Nuff said.
Cardinals - If I were to simplify it = PUJOS!

I've been a Cardinals fan since birth. The new stadium is awesome. The title of "Best Baseball Fans in America" often turns many off but I'm proud to be one. If you've ever heard any players talking about their careers once they stepped onto the turf of Busch Stadium, you'd understand. It's kind of like the moniker on the Cardinals Official Site. "Welcome to Baseball Heaven."

Why else? Mid America so we don't have all of the $$$ to throw at all of the free agents. We get second best and yet, put a competitive team out there year after year. We are going to attract 3 million every year! COUNT ON IT! You can run into a Cardinals fan almost anywhere. I grew up (until 6th grade) in Kentucky. You'll find cars at the games from as far away as Georgia and Tennessee. Therefore, although presently a Marlins fan, you'll still be able to sit in the stand with several people wearing the RED when the Cardinals are in town. BTW, have you ever seen a Cardinals game on TV when they are on the road? You always see RED.

I hope this helps. Being a part of the Redbird Nation is a good thing. Besides, once you join, you also gain a team you can root AGAINST when your team isn't doing so well. THOSE DREADED CUBBIES! lol!

Actually, Coach, there are more tha a few Cards fans to cheer with in Miami or Tampa Bay. When I've gone to Cards games in Florida, the red in the stands takes over. As is right and just Wink.

Also being a Cards fan since birth, I'm having trouble getting my mind around how one goes about adopting a team to cheer for. Maybe it can be an organic process, like following Girardi to his new team. Or an access issue, choosing the Braves or Cubs because you can actually watch their games on their Superstations (Heck, the Cubs have to get fans somehow; without WGN they may have had to resort to brute force.)

I had this weird dream yesterday, Coach ---- Jeff Weaver shut the opposition out. Must have been the pepporoni and chocolate pizza I had for lunch..... Big Grin

Go Cards!

Actually, my mother's roommate at the hospital was Jim Delsing's wife (Brownies, whose big claim to fame was that he pinch ran for Eddie Gaedel), so the red in hospital wouldn't have been welcomed! But I was carried into my first game at Sportsman's Park a few weeks later.

Dad tried out for the Cards, in the days when you did that. Still have the pamphlet explaining the process. He was judged to have the glove for 2nd base but "runs too long in the same place".

Both my kids were carried into their first game as well; the definition of "lifelong fan".

Go Cards.

TPM - I think you subconsciously listed them first for a reason; they're the best. They've got 26 WS trophies to prove it. In your analogy you forgot to mention that Joey G was their catcher before Posada.
Orlando, great story!!! I must have had the same meal! Ok so I was somewhat sick before the game just worrying about the outcome. Don't you love it when you get that nervous and you aren't even playing?

TPM, as I mentioned, I grew up until 6th grade in Kentucky. We had a guy (Not associated with Elvis) called Colonel Parker. Naturally, he was one of the richest men in our area. A part of what he used to do was bring less fortunate kids such as I to St. Louis once a year for a game. I remember visiting Sportsman Park and the old Busch. WOW! The legends I could name. The games I've attended. Lou Brock getting his 3,000 hit. The World Series games I've been fortunate to attend. Having the Cardinals be so considerate to me and letting my kids play there each year. BTW, they sought us out and asked us to play this year in the New Busch. Can you imagine the look on my kids eyes when they heard that the Cardinals were granting 6 high school teams (3 games) the opportunity to play there? Having players such as Edmonds, Vina, Encarnacion (This year) ... take time to say something to my little girl when we played there. I couldn't say enough about that hometown feeling that this team generates.

IF NOTHING ELSE, LET ME SWAY YOU WITH THIS, ORLANDO IS A MEMBER OF THE REDBIRD NATION. That'd be enough for me!

GO CARDS!

Yes, Weaver's made me sick several times this year (though the actual holes in my stomach are courtesy of Izzy)!

I really miss the wooden seats from Sportsman's Park.....and the Mexican Hat Dance.

TPM, it's postseason time -- your 'universe' of teams to cheer for (currently, at least) is dwindling fast.....made a decision?
