Reminder about the upcoming tryouts . . . please register in advance so that we can be prepared with tryout shirts and adequate staff to evaluate all players.
For those that are not familiar with the Indians program or our tryout process, we put a heavy emphasis on objective data (throwing velocity, 60 time, HP -> 1B times, pro-agility runs, ball exit-speed, broad jump, med ball throws) and combine that with our subjective rankings and opinions to make our roster decisions.
Our winter training program is designed to not only teach players mechanics and improve their skills, but also to boost the ever-important numbers that we recorded during tryouts.
Last winter we saw some players jump as many as 10-12 mph with their throwing velocity and ball exit speed and also shave .2 - .4 off their 60 time. The average improvement for all players was 5.7 mph throwing and 6.3 mph hitting. The average improvement on the 60 yard sprint was .23.
Believe me when I saw that we are not the reason the kids improved so much . . . we did not "make" these players and they are not "our" players. We encourage them to work hard and improve, and those that follow through see results. Combine that with the natural growth of players in their high school years and you have a huge opportunity to improve in many areas.
I am excited for the direction of our program and based on the quantity and QUALITY of those already registered for tryouts I know that 2013 will be even better for the Illinois Indians.
