I come to HSBBW for may reasons and while wearing different caps. I come as a dad, a coach and a fan of the game. I've recieved a good deal of pertinent info from a great pool of knowlegable folks here across many topics. This one's a bit different...

Our HS program is using a sound system this year for the first time. The volunteer heading this up (along with everyone else involved) has zero experience with running this type of thing. Having recalled some of the enthusiastic posts by 2Bmom, I steered the volunteer to her and sent him some of her previous posts.

2Bmom, as usual, went way above and beyond with her help. The first game, as well as the three since, came off like we'd been doing it for years. I know not everyone is a big fan of music at the games, walk-up songs, etc., but I can tell you that there was a distinct difference in the atmosphere at the games with the music. As a coach, I focus on the play on the field. But, there is little doubt the boys enjoy things a bit more with that type of atmosphere. Four games in, and the crowds are starting to build more than in the past. Yes, improved play is a big part, but I don't think the few truckloads of teens on the hill would have stayed thru the whole Saturday DH without the music. If there's a problem, it's that I can't get the boys to stop knee slapping to the post-game music during the post-game talk Roll Eyes

THANKS 2BMOM!!!!

OK, the topic should be "giving a shoutout to 2Bmom" but not as many of you would have looked Smile

And on with the show ...Cabbagedad, I appreciate the kind words regarding how well received the music is, even from the coaches point of view. 2BMom has provided me with scripts, thoughtful music selections, and good, solid advice on putting on a show for the players, coaches, and the fans. Thank you, thank you, thank you. The most important lesson I learned was, mistakes will happen, it's part of the entertainment, and keep moving forward. Most important to note: The players are jazzed about the addition of music and each get to represent who they are with their choice of Walk-Up music. It's fun, it's silly, it's serious, and it gives added value to the entertainment that each player is ultimately providing to the sport. Most may not make it to the next level, so I am glad B2Mom has taken on the responsibility to help me and others pull together the best material we can and provide just a little something extra. To all those who are kicking around the idea of adding music to your games, just do it. (No trademark infringement intended :-) Thanks again 2BMom. You're awesome!!!

And remember one of the golden rules of running the PA...preview EVERY song to the end before putting it on air...I give the players a chance to request some songs to use during pregame and bp...and I usually have to delete most of them from the list. Same with walkups...sometimes finding a "playable" portion of the song they want can be difficult.

But, yes, when done right, quality music programming and announcing can dramatically increase the game experience for the fans and players.
Scdigger, you are 100% right. I am glad I did NOT find out the hard way. There is a great website I found that not only let's you hear and view the song, but the lyrics are posted adjacent to the music video. mylyricarchive.com

SO far, and knock on wood, all songs have been present to preview. Fortunately, most of the selections to date have been relatively tame...a couple had to be
